Bungie has just revealed a new trailer for Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, showcasing the brand-new Strand subclass that Guardians will be able to use. The upcoming expansion will see players dive into the bustling, cyberpunk-themed city of Neomuna, meet the elusive faction of Neomuna's defenders known as Cloudstriders, and come face to face with The Witness and Emperor Calus.

One of the cornerstone features of Destiny 2, elemental subclasses work as the centerpiece of any Guardian's arsenal. Players were introduced to the Stasis subclass and elemental type with the announcement of the Beyond Light expansion. While Destiny 2's director Luke Smith confirmed that Stasis was the first of many Darkness subclasses to come, it would take Bungie an entire calendar year until the Strand would be unveiled. Through the ability to see the underlying thread of webs that connects every matter and being, Strand will allow players to manipulate reality itself to creatively dispatch enemies and cut a path through the forces of The Witness.

Players will have to wait and test for themselves how potent Strand is at dispatching enemies and safely traversing Neomuna's vertical cityscape. The trailer, however, showcases a stunning display of the lethality of the three new subclasses Strand will bring to Lightfall. The first subclass to be featured is Warlock's Broodweaver. Originally known as the Architect, Broodweaver will allow Warlocks to control threadlings, sending hordes of sentient Strand energy to seek out enemies. The Titan subclass, Berserker, is much simpler and traditional in comparison, able to cut a path through enemies using claws composed of Strand energy. Hunters are settling for a middle ground as Threadrunners will be able to use a bladed whip to dispatch enemies from a distance and up close as well.

The trailer displays small details many even season Destiny 2 players might miss. In the first instance of the Broodweaver showcase, the Warlock seemingly consumes a grenade before spawning threadlings from a precision kill, which then proceed to seek out a nearby enemy. Berserkers are able to spawn waves of Strand energy upon deploying a barricade, suspending any enemy coming into contact with these waves. Threadrunners are seen to be capable of divebombing an area similar to a Void hunter's Deadfall ability, which also suspends enemies in midair. The Hunter is then seen throwing a kunai that bounces between every suspended enemy in range. Other abilities that were shown include Broodweaver's rift which can spawn threadlings, and the Berserker throwing a Strand grenade skill that a Threadrunner then grapples onto.

While the trailer is short, it showcases the minute details of each subclass and the design philosophy behind those. Currently, players have no information about aspects and fragments that will further augment the subclasses, and how Strand will affect the future of Destiny 2's build crafting. The secrets of this reality-bending power and more will be revealed in three weeks when Lightfall finally launches.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with Lightfall releasing on February 28.
