Destiny 2 is a very large game that features all sorts of different weapons and armor pieces, and they are often combined with classes, Exotics, and mods to create numerous builds. This is possible because there are many things players can combine in Destiny 2, and even the same weapons and mods can yield very different results when paired with any other class from a selection of three. Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters are in fact not only very different in the way they look when compared to one another, but each of them comes with a subset of specific abilities.

These are called subclasses, and every Destiny 2 class has three Light ones to choose from and a single Darkness subclass with Stasis. Each is unique and brings something to the table that others don't, and that's why all three of the main classes are important to the game's meta. However, some players are not convinced that Hunters are as critical anymore when it comes to PvE.

A Reddit user by the name of CDG710 shared a post stating how teams made of six Warlocks or six Titans are not problematic in PvE, but six Hunters may very well be. The main problem is that Hunters were very strong in the past due to the Void Tether's ability to Weaken multiple targets at once, which has been substituted by seasonal mods that do the same thing or don't stack with it. Another problem is that Hunters were the go-to choice for burst DPS thanks to Celestial Nighthawk, but since Titans got Cuirass of the Falling Star, Hunters' burst has become the lesser option of the two due to possible inconsistencies with one's aim and critical damage.

Another player suggested that making Tether a universal damage multiplier might make the ability very viable and desirable in all PvE content, but that could raise the problem of power creep when combined with seasonal mods like Particle Deconstruction. Of course, with Tether being a Void ability, it is getting a rework when The Witch Queen launches in February of next year, and that could make a difference.

For the time being, however, it's likely that Hunters will have to stick to support options like Omnioculus and Aeon Swift in order to offer something more to their team. Destiny 2's weekly reset is here once again, and now might be a good time to use either of those Exotics in the Proving Grounds Grandmaster Nightfall.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
