Season 17 in Destiny 2, now officially known as the Season of the Haunted, returns with a seasonal story, activity, and of course a seasonal currency. This season, players will need to be collecting Vestiges of Dread, which is somewhat comparable to the currency of previous seasons, such as Parallax Trajectory from Season of the Lost and Psychogenic Intel from Season of the Risen.

There are a few ways to farm a bunch of Vestiges of Dread that players can choose from. Here's where players can easily find some, and additionally, where players should be using their Vestiges of Dread throughout season 17.

How To Get Vestiges Of Dread

Destiny 2 Vestiges Of Dread In Inventory

Bungie has luckily made it quite simple to farm this new material in season 17, and it's one of the first seasonal missions that players need to complete as well once they board the Derelict Leviathan and uncover its secrets.

Here's what players can do to quickly get Vestiges of Dread:

  • Defeat combatants and Nightmares anywhere in the system: There are many Nightmares found on the Derelict Leviathan in particular, but other destinations in the game work as well.
  • Open chests and complete Patrols on the Derelict Leviathan: Explore the ship to find numerous chests and short patrol missions that will reward players with Vestiges of Dread.
  • Complete playlist activities: Finishing any playlist activities in Crucible, Vanguard Strikes or Gambit will reward the player with Vestiges of Dread.
Destiny 2 Crown Upgrades

There are also ways to boost the number of Vestiges of Dread, as well as unlock a few additional places to get them from. Simply head over to the H.E.L.M. and check the Upgrades available for the Crown. The second row has a few interesting upgrades for those who want to earn a few more extra Vestiges of Dread and make farming much easier.

How To Use Vestiges Of Dread

Destiny 2 Nightmare Containment

Vestiges of Dread are used in the new activity called Nightmare Containment to "bind maligned presence". Simply head over to the Derelict Leviathan, and participate in the activity, where players will use the Vestiges of Dread on the Nightmare Harvester tool in order to catch and trap powerful Nightmare enemies.

Players can participate in Nightmare Containment either by choosing the Castellum option on the Derelict Leviathan, which puts them on patrol with occasional the occasional Containment activity as a sort of repeating public event, or they can queue up directly to the Containment activity to ensure they will immediately be put into the activity with other players.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
