Grandmaster Nightfalls have returned to Destiny 2 for Season of Defiance, and along with them is a brand new currency, Nightfall Ciphers. Nightfall Ciphers can allow Guardians to purchase Nightfall weapons they want, even if the featured weapon for the week is different. However, some players need clarification on how to acquire this new currency correctly. This Destiny 2 guide will help players find and obtain Nightfall Ciphers & determine what to use them on.

How To Get Nightfall Ciphers

Destiny 2-Proving Grounds-Nightfall Strike

For the short and sweet answer, Nightfall Ciphers can only be obtained by completing Grandmaster Nightfalls. Each completion rewards a single Cipher, and if it's double rewards that given week, then two will drop. A player can hold a maximum of ten in their inventory at a time and cannot collect more if ten is stored until it is spent.

To spend them, players must head back to the tower and speak with Zavala, where they can use their new-found currency to purchase Adept versions of the weekly featured Nightfall weapon. It costs ten Ciphers to buy one copy of an Adept gun, which will be random-rolled. This new currency is simply another method of acquiring "God Rolls" of Adept Nightfall weapons.

With the knowledge of how to acquire them, it's time to discuss what weapons players should spend them on.

What Weapons To Buy With Nightfall Ciphers

Given the lineup of Adept Nightfall weapons this season, there are a few options to choose from that would be worth spending Ciphers on. Starting with the Kinetic Slot, the Hung Jury Scout Rifle has proven season over season how dominant it is in both PvE and PvP activities. We already have a guide on how to get the gun and what the God Roll for it is, which can be found here. It's safe to say that spending Nightfall Ciphers for this gun, in particular, would be the best option among all of the Nightfall weapons.

Moving to the energy slot, the Mindbender's Ambition Shotgun has been moving up the ranks in usage for the last season thanks to its excellent handling and range. It's less dominant than it was during the Forsaken days, but it can still put in some solid work when needed. Acquiring an Adept version will allow the user to slot an Adept Range mod, making the weapon shoot from longer distances, greatly benefiting a Shotgun.

Finally, in the heavy slot, the Wendigo GL3 Grenade Launcher got a massive buff this season with the arrival of the Lightfall DLC. It can't out-damage the likes of a Rocket Launcher just yet, but another buff will undoubtedly do the trick, and when that time comes, having a God Roll of it on standby will be of great benefit.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
