Season 18 has brought about a few new things into Destiny 2: the final 3.0 subclass rework in the form of Arc 3.0, a new seasonal story centered around Mithrax and Eramis, as well as tons of new cool weapons and Exotic gear that will play well into the theme of the season.

One of such new weapons in Destiny 2 is the Exotic Arc fusion rifle players can unlock in the seasonal pass, called Delicate Tomb. This Exotic weapon is quite particular and unique compared to other fusion rifles out there, due to its horizontal and cone-shaped firing pattern. Here's how to unlock Delicate Tomb's Catalyst and what its Catalyst does, exactly.

How To Get The Delicate Tomb Fusion Rifle & What It Does

Destiny 2 Season 18 Season Pass With Delicate Tomb

Delicate Tomb, as mentioned, is a season pass reward for season 18. Owners of the paid seasonal pass can unlock Delicate Tomb right off the bat as the first reward of the season. In the free season pass, players will have to level until level 35 before they can get their hands on this weapon.

Defeating targets with Delicate Tomb has a chance of creating Ionic Traces. If the player collects an Ionic Trace, Delicate Tomb becomes overcharged and its next shot will have the ability to jolt a target. As such, it plays perfectly into the seasonal builds and Arc 3.0.

After season 18 is over, the Delicate Tomb will be placed in the Monument to Lost Lights Exotic archives. It can be purchased under The Witch Queen Exotics tab, as is the case with other Exotics from The Witch Queen era.

How To Get The Delicate Tomb Catalyst

Once players have unlocked the weapon from their seasonal pass, Banshee-44 will be marked with a yellow Exotic quest marker on the Tower map. Head on over to visit him and pick up a new quest called The Form of Danger. From here on, players will need to complete a few steps before Banshee-44 will reward them with the weapon's Catalyst.

Step 1: Defeat enemies and score kills. These activities can be done anywhere and with any weapon.

  • Use weapons with Special ammo to defeat targets (any weapon will do, not just the Delicate Tomb).
  • Defeat combatants marked as challenging (minibosses, champions, and the like will count for this).

Step 2: Complete playlist activities and score kills with the Delicate Tomb.

  • Playlist activities include the Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard Strikes. Progress will be faster if players finish Nightfalls or score victories in Crucible or Gambit.
  • Kills with the Delicate Tomb can be scored anywhere in the system and in any activity. That said, final blows on Guardians will give the fastest progress.

Step 3: Speak with Banshee-44 in the Tower and get the Catalyst.

Once all requirements are completed, Banshee-44 will receive the Exotic quest marker once more. Go visit him in the Tower and speak to him to receive the Delicate Tomb Catalyst. Keep in mind that the grind doesn't end here, as players will now have to upgrade the Catalyst in order to slot it in.

According to Light.GG, the Delicate Tomb Catalyst requires 700 kills with the weapon itself to complete, which is a massive grind. Some of the best places for Special weapon Catalyst grinding are Shuro-Chi and Golgoroth, where players can place down rally banners to constantly reload the checkpoint and fill their ammo. Other more accessible locations include the Grasp of Avarice entrance, Altars of Sorrow, and Containment activity over at the Leviathan.

What Does The Catalyst Do?

Delicate Tomb's Catalyst adds a further bonus to collecting Ionic Traces. Once the Catalyst is slotted in, picking up an Ionic Trace will also reload the Delicate Tomb's magazine from its reserves. This makes using it in PVE even more enjoyable and improves fast-paced gameplay since players don't have to deal with its reload animation.

Is The Delicate Tomb Catalyst Worth It?

Destiny 2 Hunter Arc Staff And Delicate Tomb Fusion Rifle

If players have engaged in Arc 3.0 gameplay quite a bit this season, then yes, the Delicate Tomb and its Catalyst are more than worth it. A number of fantastic Arc 3.0 builds can be made around this Exotic fusion rifle, which is rare given how inflexible the Exotic weapon meta can be at times.

The main benefit of this weapon and its Catalyst is the amount of utility it provides when paired with Ionic Traces. Players will have access to jolt basically on command, which is fantastic, and with the Catalyst fully upgraded, reloading won't be a problem either, which is fantastic given Arc 3.0 melee-ranged and fast-paced gameplay. It definitely beats most Arc fusion rifles due to its incredible hip-fire and unique firing cone when shot this way from the hip.

And so, while upgrading the Catalyst won't be a huge priority for players since the weapon is already excellent as it is without being fully Masterworked, it's definitely worth grinding it out for players who plan on sticking with Arc 3.0 even after this season.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
