How To Get Briar's Contempt

Destiny 2-Root of Nightmares Cataclysm Arena

For the short and sweet answer, the Briar's Contempt Linear Fusion Rifle can only be obtained by completing the first and final encounters of the Root of Nightmares raid. Defeating the final boss of the raid, Nezarec, multiple times to acquire the weapon is no easy feat for many Guardians, so it's better to try and farm the first encounter instead. That said, it will most likely take numerous runs to earn the "God Roll."

However, after obtaining the gun at least once, players can then spend their Spoils of Conquest currency to purchase more copies of the weapon to search for the roll they want. Spoils of Conquest are earned by completing each raid encounter (five per completion). It will cost twenty Spoils to purchase a copy of the gun, so keep that in mind.

What Is The God Roll For Briar's Contempt?

With the gun acquired, it's time to discuss God Rolls. Linear Fusion Rifles got hit with a nasty nerf going into the Lightfall expansion, but they can still put up some solid work overall. It's safe to say that Linears are also the least used heavy weapon in PvP, and for a good reason, as it's harder to headshot a moving player with a Linear Fusion Rifle than it would be to simply shoot a Rocket Launcher at them. With that in mind, we recommend not using this weapon in PvP, as it will not provide nearly as much of a result as using another heavy weapon such as a Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, or even a Sword for that matter.

PvE is a much different story. As mentioned before, while Linears were slapped with a brutal nerf going into Lightfall, they can still put up some solid work, and the Briar's Contempt is no exception. The God Roll players should be looking for is Reconstruction and Focused Fury. Reconstruction will automatically reload the weapon from reserves and double the magazine's capacity. On the other hand, Focused Fury grants a 20% damage buff to the gun after landing half of the magazine as precision hits. With this roll, it's safe to say this weapon can compete with the likes of Cataclysmic. If Linear Fusion Rifles come back to power in the future, this weapon will be a must-have for that time.

As far as Barrel, Magazine, and Masterwork go, they range from various stats that buff the weapon in multiple ways. Players should look for Arrowhead Brake for the Barrel, Enhanced Battery for the Magazine, and a Charge Time Masterwork.

Players looking to acquire the Adept version of the gun must wait until it becomes the featured reward for completing one of the Root of Nightmares raid challenges.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
