The allure of Destiny 2 isn't just about the endless sci-fi action; it's also about the thrill of uncovering secrets buried deep within the game's vast universe. With the dawn of the "Season of the Witch," two new activities entered the game, and Savathun's Spire has been a particular hotspot due to Guardians pursuing its concealed treasures. Secret chests await players in the Spire, but it'll take a little ingenuity, know-how, and timing to secure them. Of course, these chests seem to be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the secrets the Spire has to offer, and more will undoubtedly become accessible as the season goes on.
Destiny 2 players are no strangers to secret hunting, and most in-game seasons typically include at least one set of lore collectibles or hidden ways to earn extra loot. Last season, amidst the delight of hunting for Exotic fish, players could find collectibles in the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon and earn the new Exotic weapon, Wicked Implement, via the well-hidden Whetstone Exotic mission. With Season 22's focus on the Hivegod of deception, Savathun, getting into these chests won't be as simple as knowing the locations.
How to Access Secret Chests
Savathun's Spire isn't just a marvel to look at; it's also a reservoir of secrets. Each winding path and cryptic corridor is imbued with magic, mysteries to be solved, and treasures to be found. Yet despite the grandeur, the secret chests entombed within the Spire do not give themselves up readily. Some chests require players to shoot elemental-infused symbols with weapons corresponding to the same element; others ask for a sharp eye and the will to survive insurmountable odds.
Though a Guardian may have clear instructions on where to find each chest, only a select few are obtainable each week, with others rotating in and out as the season wanes. The second week of Season 22 introduced new secret chests and replaced the original two. Of course, this process will repeat, and more chests will be uncovered in the coming weeks.
Week 1 (Chest #1)
- After the first encounter in the Spire, Guardians will eventually make their way through a room with three swinging Hive lanterns and reach a hallway bathed in purple light.
- One of the Hive states in the hallway will be holding a purple Hive symbol. This must be shot with a Void weapon
- The next statue holding a symbol will be behind and to the left of Guardians after they jump up to a higher platform at the end of the same hallway. This symbol is red and must be shot with a Solar weapon.
- The final symbol appears above the same larger platform at the end of the hall, in front of a barrier securing the first chest. This symbol is also purple and will require activation via a Void weapon.
- After all symbols are activated, text will appear noting that a secret has been revealed. The barrier will dissipate, and Guardians can open the first chest.
Week 1 (Chest #2)
- After the second encounter, just before the end of the multiple-door puzzle, players will find themselves leaping across a group of small platforms to reach an area with a rally flag and the final encounter.
- Hive symbols appear under these four platforms, as they appeared with the statues for the first chest.
- Two symbols require Solar weapons and two require Void weapons.
- After the in-game text notes that the secret has been revealed, the chest will appear on the platform following the four jumps.
Week 2 (Chest #1)
- After the first encounter, Guardians soon reach a room with three swinging Hive Lanterns, just before the first chest for Week 1.
- Instead of jumping past the lanterns, turning to the right reveals an open doorway leading to a new hallway.
- After Guardians enter the hallway, in-game text will note that a secret has been revealed, and a chest will appear at the end of the hallway.
- Opening the chest blocks off the exit and summons an invincible Hive knight akin to The Lightblade, Alak-Hul. The knight will eventually despawn, and the way will open after a few nerve-wracking seconds.
Week 2 (Chest #2)
- After the second encounter, during the puzzle where Guardians have to repeatedly find the door matching the correct Hive runes, players will eventually make their way to a series of elevators.
- Instead of going up, if Guardians look down a level, they'll spot a Deepsight node on the side of the elevator's lower level.
- Activating the node reveals new platforms that lead upward and eventually through an illusionary wall.
- The secret chest is on the other side of the wall, and a portal is also there to take Guardians back.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
