As Season 22 of Destiny 2 continues, the reintroduction of the Crota's End Raid brings with it nostalgic elements from the original Destiny, including the renowned Necrochasm Exotic auto rifle. While some players have drawn controversy to the gun, many are still on the hunt for the returning weapon. This time around, acquiring the Necrochasm doesn't solely depend on luck. Instead, it is tied to a Guardian's ability to initially take down the formidable Crota. Doing so earns players a quest and sets them on the path toward the gun.

While any player that doesn't have the Necrochasm by now will need to complete an Exotic Quest after defeating Crota, there was briefly another way to earn the weapon in Destiny 2. For those brave enough to tackle Crota's End during its 48-hour contest mode, victory guaranteed access to the weapon's Exotic Quest and its automatic completion. Of course, the contest mode period has come and gone, so players' only option now is to embark on the Bottomless Pit Quest.

How To Start The Necrochasm Quest

Players need not despair if the contest mode window was missed, for the Bottomless Pit quest still holds the key to obtaining the Necrochasm. This path is accessible via Crota's discarded sword following his defeat. It is guaranteed to appear from the vendor menu and does not require any currency to acquire.

Once players have accepted the quest, they'll receive the Husk of the Pit auto rifle. This weapon isn't anything special, as denoted by its white-outlined common rarity. Still, it is instrumental in eventually earning the Necrochasm.

What To Do With Husk Of The Pit

The journey begins with the task of eliminating Hive using the Husk of the Pit. While the quest shows a progress bar that starts at 0/100, that does not necessarily mean players only need to kill 100 Hive enemies; some Hive combatants are worth more than others. Specifically, those dispatched within the Crota's End Raid contribute more significant quest progress. The Moon's Altars of Sorrow is also an excellent location to fill the progress bar, as it's absolutely flooded with Hive.

Accomplishing this milestone transforms the Husk of the Pit into the Eidolon Ally auto rifle. This Legendary weapon comes with the Perpetual Motion and Rangefinder perks, rounded out with the unique Cursed Thrall origin trait. While the gun offers a glimpse at what Necrochasm can do via the Cursed Thrall trait, there's still more to be done before the quest is resolved and Guardians can claim their prize.

Obtain Enough Essence Of The Oversoul To Complete the Quest

Destiny-2-Players-at-entrance

Advancing further, the Necrochasm's quest demands the collection of Essence of the Oversoul. This material can be found in the Crota's End Raid and is sporadically acquired from encounters. Another way players can earn Essence of the Oversoul is by fulfilling specific challenges and Triumphs related to the content.

The final quest step to procure the Necrochasm requires 20 of these Essences. This task, naturally, incorporates a degree of RNG, as players can only count on guaranteed Essences from Triumphs, and those aren't exactly cakewalks. Otherwise, Guardians will find themselves at the mercy of the loot tables. Players can track progress towards the reward as they go, as opposed to the random drop Raid Exotics like the Vex Mythoclast.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
