When nearly half of the content in Destiny 2 was removed with the launch of Beyond Light back in 2020, many weapons became unsable due to not being able to have their Power level raised via infusion. This process was called sunsetting, and it wasn't very popular with the Destiny 2 community to the point that Bungie stopped doing it. While many weapons are still unusable to this day, some are slowly being reintroduced back into the game with new perks that they can roll with when they drop.

For the longest time, Pinnacle weapons were not reissued due to how notorious they were for being overpowered when compared to most every other weapon at the time. Bungie broke away from this tradition in Season of the Wish by bringing back Breakneck, although it is a shadow of its former self.

How to Get Breakneck

the drifter in gambit mode in destiny 2

Back during Season 5 of Destiny 2, Breakneck a Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle that was obtained by completing a quest that required them to play a lot of Gambit. It dropped with a combination of Onslaught and Rampage, which made it very powerful prior to getting nerfed in a later patch.

The reissued Breakneck now drops from Gambit matches. Alternatively, you can take Gambit Engrams to the Drifter and use Engram Focusing to get Breakneck. Whether you save up a bunch of Engrams and turn them into Breakneck or keep playing Gambit to get it as a drop, there are several ways to chase a god roll for this weapon.

What is the God Roll for Breakneck?

destiny-2-how-to-get-breakneck2

Just like with any weapon in Destiny 2, there are perk combinations that are better for PvE over PvP and vice versa. For PvE and PvP, you will want to look for the following combination of perks.

PvE god roll:

  • Subsistence
  • Onslaught

PvP gold roll:

  • Keep Away
  • Onslaught

No matter what kind of activity you want to bring Breakneck to, you are going to want to have Onslaught as a perk. When combined with Subsistence in PvE, you will have to reload less while also having a higher rate of fire thanks to Onslaught. Obviously, this is good for clearing out weaker enemies, but none of these perks will be helpful when dealing with a boss. Keep Away can make Breakneck more useful in the Crucible as long as you can maintain medium range distance from your opponents.

While Breakneck doesn't hold a candle to other auto rifles, especially a god roll Rufus's Fury, it is a good option for newer players that may not have anything better yet.
