The Overthrow activity in Destiny 2 is all about getting points to level up a region's progress level in hopes of fighting a boss at the end of the activity. Points are earned by completing mini-events and opening chests; both involve specific steps that aren't always obvious to players.

Guardians fighting at the Impasse in Destiny 2's new Pale Heart destination may come across a peculiar chest in the middle of the region that's asking to get expunged. If you're not quite sure how to expunge chests in The Final Shape's patrol zone, here's how to do it.

How To Expunge Chests in Destiny 2

The Expunge Chest in Destiny 2 The Final Shape

The chest in question is in the middle of the Impasse, below the swirling mass of arms on the broken overpass. Expunging this chest is actually pretty simple, though it's also easy to mess up. Interact with it to start the event, then stand on the glowing well of Light with the floating Grenade symbol, similar to the ones you see in Dares of Eternity. From here, look for the cysts growing on the hands and arms surrounding you. Destroy all of them with your grenades to expunge the chest.

While you're popping cysts, make sure not to leave the glowing well of Light, or else you'll fail the activity. Also, you'll want to use a grenade that either sticks or detonates on impact. Anything that bounces like Suppressor Grenades may not be able to hit cysts that are hanging overhead.

Expunging the chest may reward you with loot and a splash of XP and Glimmer. This may include a Memory Vestige of Darkness, a new kind of destination material that (so far) only drops in the Pale Heart. Collect five of these vestiges to get a Memory, which will unlock a Search Area for a chest containing a Fragment for Destiny 2's Prismatic subclass. Don't expect to just walk up to these chests and claim their contents, though, as they're usually locked behind short puzzles.

Also, it's worth noting that opening corrupted chests will contribute a significant amount of progress for the ongoing Overthrow event. As long as you know what you're doing, opening these chests should take no time at all compared to all the other mini-events on the map. If you're in a rush to get that last couple of hundred points to get your Overthrow level up, then hunt one of these chests down and do your best to open them.
