While there was originally a Spring event in Destiny 2 called the Revelry, it has since been replaced with an event called Guardian Games. As an event, Guardian Games is like a Destiny 2 version of the Olympics. The idea behind the event is that Warlocks, Titans, and Hunters all compete to win the event.

While the basic premise for Guardian Games remains the same as when it was first introduced back in 2020, the event has seen some significant changes since last year. For instance, Laurels are gone and there are many more cosmetic rewards for players to obtain. Here's how Guardian Games works in 2023.

How to Participate in Guardian Games

Once the event begins, the first thing that Destiny 2 players will want to do is complete a quest provided by Eva Levante. She gives players a Class Item (Warlock Bond, Titan Mark, Hunter Cloak) that is Guardian Games themed. Equip this item and keep it equipped for the duration of the event, as this is how players earn Medallions when completing activities in the game.

Once players have completed the quest from Eva Levante, they will be able to start working on all the challenges associated with Guardian Games. From there, players can either resume playing the game however they wish or load up the Guardian Game specific playlists to start earning Medallions.

How Medallions Work

As mentioned above, Medallions are obtained by completing any activity in the game while having the Guardian Games Class Item equipped. At random, players can earn either a Bronze or Silver Medallion. There are Gold and Platinum Medallions, but they can only be obtained by completing Contender Cards.

Contender Cards behave like Bounties, and they can be obtained from Eva Levante. The catch with Contender Cards is that you can only hold one PvE and one PvP Card at a time. Once the objectives on the Contender Cards have been completed, players can turn in the card to get either a Gold Medallion or Platinum Medallion. After completing one or more Contender Cards, players may claim another one from Eva Levante.

Once obtained, Medallions can be placed into the podium in the middle of the Courtyard in the Tower. This is how players score points for their class. Bronze Medallions are worth the least amount of points, and Platinum Medallions are worth the most. So ideally, players will want to focus on getting Platinum Medallions as they are worth the most. If players are curious to know who is currently in the lead, the ranking is determined by how large the flag is.

Guardian Games Playlists

For Guardian Games, there are three special playlists that players gain access to. The first is a unique Crucible mode called Supremacy, which was a Crucible mode in the original Destiny. In this mode, players fight and defeat each other to try and claim the crest that drops when an opponent is defeated. Claiming an enemy crest gains points. However, if an ally picks up a crest belonging to their team it will deny those points for the opposing team. So essentially, players will want to pick up the crests dropped by their opponents and stop their opponents from picking up any friendly crests.

For players who prefer PVE, there are two playlists specifically for them. The first is Guardian Games: Recreational Playlist. This is a casual mode with fewer active modifiers. Players can still earn Strike specific Triumphs that are available exclusively during Guardian Games.

The second playlist is Guardian Games: Competitive Playlist. In this playlist, players must compete to achieve a high a score as possible. There are four score thresholds for this playlist, and they allow players to light special torches in the tower upon reaching those thresholds. Supremacy has its own scoring as well. These scoring thresholds are as follows.

  • Bronze Threshold: 50,000 (150 in Supremacy)
  • Silver Threshold: 100,000 (300 in Supremacy)
  • Gold Threshold: 150,000 (600 in Supremacy)
  • Platinum Threshold: 175,000 (1,000 in Supremacy)

Guardian Games Rewards

As players compete and participate in this event, they will earn rewards. Each event challenge has its own unique reward, including a Shader, Medallions, unique Guardian Games weapons, a Sparrow, and many useful upgrade materials like Enhancement Prisms. In addition, there is a special title that players can get if they complete all the event challenges, just like with Festival of the Lost.

In addition, players who want to spend some money on Guardian Games can get a set of unique cosmetics by upgrading their Event Card for 1,000 Silver ($10). These special cosmetic rewards cannot be obtained any other way. In addition, there is a whole selection of Guardian Games cosmetics that players can purchase from the Eververse store for the duration of the event.

Finally, players get progressively better rewards as they reach scoring thresholds and light the torches on the podium. The rewards start out pretty basic, but if players reach the Platinum Threshold they can expect to get the best rewards including things like Masterworked Guardian Games weapons and Ascendant Shards. In addition, a hologram will appear on the left and right of the player to indicate which torches they have lit.

How Does a Class Win?

Destiny 2 2023 Guardian Games

Every day there is a class that is declared the winner for the day. On the Friday daily reset, there is a special award ceremony. During this weekly ceremony, players can approach the podium, and they will receive a cosmetic aura (Bronze, Silver, Gold) based on how that class placed that week. This aura lasts for a week. On the third week, the class that won the most days is declared the winner of Guardian Games and a statue will appear in the Tower for the rest of the year until the next Guardian Games.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
