Highlights

  • Players should collect the latest legendary weapons from Season of the Witch and the upcoming Festival of the Lost Event before they become unavailable in the near future.
  • Mercurial Overreach, obtained from Competitive Crucible matches, and Malediction, earned by reaching reputation rank 16, are two weapons that players should grab while they still can.
  • Kept Confidence, a primary slot hand cannon, is currently popular in Crucible and easy to obtain, making it worth collecting before the Season of the Witch activities end.

With the seasonal storyline coming to an end for Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch, Season 23 is fast approaching. There’s still plenty of time to collect everything from the current season, but with The Final Shape expansion coming in February, players would be wise to prepare for all the new challenges coming to Destiny 2.

While many Destiny 2 players will soon begin saving bounties for Season 23 to front-load some experience points, there are a few other things that players should do before the current Season ends. Specifically, players should consider collecting some of the latest legendary weapons from the Season of the Witch and the upcoming Festival of the Lost Event, especially because some of these weapons will be unavailable to earn in the near future.

Mercurial Overreach

  • Mercurial Overreach can be obtained by completing Competitive Crucible matches in Season of the Witch.

After initially obtaining this weapon by completing this Season’s placement matches, players can earn a new roll for this weapon every weekly reset, so there are plenty of chances for players to get their desired perk rolls. Mercurial Overreach will likely be replaced with a new competitive crucible playlist reward before too long, so players should grab this sniper while they have the chance.

Malediction

  • Malediction can be earned by reaching reputation rank 16 in Crucible, Gambit, or Vanguard in Season of the Witch.

This weapon is in the same boat as the Mercurial Overreach sniper, since they will both be unavailable in the near future, potentially as early as the release of Season 23. Unlike any of the other weapons that players should collect before Season of the Witch ends, Malediction doesn’t roll with randomized perks, so players only need to earn it once. While it doesn’t have randomized perks to grind for, this weapon still has a surprising amount of variety because players can choose between four different weapon-origin perks at any time.

Kept Confidence

  • Kept Confidence can be earned by completing activities or focusing engrams from Season of the Witch activities.

This weapon is a primary slot hand canon that deals Strand damage. Since it's a new weapon, this gun has access to plenty of the latest legendary weapon perks. It's also craftable, which means that getting the god roll is relatively easy and that it has access to enhanced perks. This weapon is currently among the most-used weapons in Crucible, and compared to other meta hand cannons, it's relatively easy to obtain while the Season of the Witch activities are still popular and available.

Horror Story

  • Horror Story can be earned from activities throughout the 2023 Festival of the Lost Event.

Horror Story is a returning weapon, except leaks for the upcoming Event claim that this time around it will have Stasis damage instead of standard kinetic damage. The available perks for this weapon are also expected to change for Destiny 2's upcoming Festival of the Lost Event in 2023. With the new Stasis Elemental damage and an updated perk pool, this weapon is shaping up to be a game-changer. In particular, some of the new perk rolls available for this weapon could be surprisingly powerful for Stasis builds in Destiny 2.

Acosmic GSP

  • Acosmic GSP can be earned from activities throughout the 2023 Festival of the Lost Event.

This is another weapon that leaked from Destiny 2’s upcoming Festival of the Lost Event except, unlike the Horror Story, this is a new weapon. Acosmic GSP is a heavy slot, rapid-fire frame Void grenade launcher. Because it hasn’t been seen in action, players don’t know what exactly to expect about this weapon’s performance ahead of its release, but its rarity alone is plenty of incentive to collect a few rolls of the weapon while it’s available in the Festival of the Lost Event during Season of the Witch.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
