Destiny 2's new Hive dungeon Ghosts of the Deep is themed heavily around Savathun's Lucent Hive, as proven by its second encounter. After a lengthy jumping puzzle segment, players will arrive in a chamber all too reminiscent of the Witch Queen's Throne World to face off against a giant Lucent Lightbearer, Ecthar.

Ecthar works exactly like a regular Lucent Lightbearer in Destiny 2 in the sense that he behaves a lot like a Titan-class Lightbearer. He's a melee character above all, with the ability to spawn a barricade to inconvenience guardians. Here's how to defeat him in the dungeon's second encounter.

Ghosts Of The Deep: Defeat Echtar, Shield Of Savathun

Destiny 2 Ghosts Of The Deep Echtar Encounter Water Elevator

The arena of this encounter is divided into two: the room and underwater. The underwater area is through which players will first enter the arena, and also get a glimpse of Ecthar as he chases after the players. Take note of the water elevator that boosts upwards, as this location will come in handy later when exiting the underwater area in a rush.

Destiny 2 Ecthar Encounter Front Ghosts Of The Deep

Rally up at the front of the room where the Acolytes are in prayer. When the encounter starts, several enemies will spawn at the upper part of the arena. Kill them, and an ogre called the Keeper of the Deep will spawn.

Once the ogre is defeated, a Deepsight node is made available where the rally banner was. Interact with it, and on dark plates on the left and right side of the chamber, three different Hive symbols will be lit up.

Destiny 2 Ghosts Of The Deep Underwater Hive Symbol

The goal of the encounter is to find these symbols in the underwater area, accessible through numerous holes in the floor around the room, finding each correct Hive symbol, and interacting with them.

Destiny 2 Hive Statue In Ghosts Of The Deep Dungeon

Interacting with a symbol will spawn a Lucent Lightbearer Wizard—three in total, one for each symbol. Players will know they have the right symbols when a message appears: The runes successfully align with a crackle. Get out of the water back into the room and kill the Wizards to gain a Vestige of Light. These must be banked in the three Hive statues mentioned earlier.

Destiny 2 Wellkeeper Knight Ghosts Of The Deep

This starts the damage phase, but in order for Ecthar to take damage, players must kill an additional enemy that spawns by the rally banner: Wellkeeper Knight.

Destiny 2 Piercing Light Buff In Ghosts Of The Deep

At his point of death, he leaves a green puddle where players must stand to break Ecthar's shield, as it grants players the Piercing Light buff. This buff lasts for a few seconds if players step out of the pool before dropping off, so if players get pushed by Ecthar, they can still do a bit of damage to his shield. Once his shield is broken, however, players can deal damage from anywhere.

Destiny 2 Echtar Shield Of Savathun

Once the damage phase ends, the encounter starts again from the beginning. A Well of Radiance and close-range damage weapons like shotguns, swords, or machine guns will be perfect for this encounter, given how the boss will try to get in melee range as much as possible during the DPS phase.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
