Bungie announced a "Developer Gameplay Preview" live stream will be held on April 9, featuring new information about the upcoming The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2. The Destiny 2 developers at Bungie also plan on sharing behind-the-scenes information about The Final Shape, including new footage.

Despite fan backlash towards Bungie's Marathon and skepticism about Destiny 2's future, Bungie is still moving forward with its plans for both titles. Originally planned for release on February 27, Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion will release on June 4, serving as the conclusion of the decade-long "Light and Darkness" saga. The Final Shape will also mark the end of Destiny 2's seasonal model as Bungie shifts to an episodic model. Although information about the new Destiny 2 episodes is scarce, fans will soon learn more about The Final Shape in Bungie's upcoming live stream.

Similarly to Destiny 2's seasonal model, the Into the Light update will feature various new activities and content for players to enjoy as they prepare their Guardians for The Final Shape. The upcoming Into the Light content includes the wave-based Onslaught mode, two reprised Exotic Missions, the Hall of Champions social space, and fan-favorite weapons from the past years of Destiny 2. Into the Light will be free for all players, so fans do not need to worry about a fee to gain access to the new content.

Fan expectations for Destiny 2: The Final Shape are quite high, but Bungie still has the opportunity to bring fans back to the game with Into the Light and the new expansion. Improvements to the new player experience in Destiny 2 may also help members of the community catch up on the story and content of The Final Shape at a reasonable pace as well.
