Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will bring back several exotic items from the first game. The news comes as the upcoming expansion in the online multiplayer shooter The Final Shape was officially unveiled during the developer’s annual Destiny 2 live stream.

The Destiny Showcase confirmed the release date for The Final Shape expansion, along with the first look at the story which is set to conclude Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga. The latest expansion will take Guardians into the heart of the Traveler, the mysterious orb that has been hanging over Earth since the original game. The Final Shape is set to reintroduce a host of characters throughout the franchise as well as some new exotic weapons.

The new Tessellation exotic fusion rifle will be the latest add-on to the live service game, and Bungie also confirmed that players will be able to unlock weapons from the original Destiny. These will be the Dragon's Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher, the Khvostov Exotic Auto Rifle, and the Red Death. It is currently unknown how each weapon will have changed between the first game and Destiny 2, but players can expect to find out when they are released alongside The Final Shape on February 27, 2024.

Fans were able to catch glimpses of the weapons in the reveal trailer for the expansion and will likely be excited to see these weapons back in the game. Although, this isn’t the first time Bungie has brought back fan-favorite weapons from the original Destiny. As part of the celebrations for Bungie’s 30th anniversary in 2021, the Gjallarhorn exotic was brought into Destiny 2 much to the excitement of gamers.

While players will have to wait a while to get their hands on these original Destiny exotics, Season 22 of Destiny 2 is underway. In keeping with the throwback to the first entry in the franchise, Destiny 2 will also see the return of the classic Crota's End raid on September 1. The raid was first introduced in the Dark Below expansion in 2015 and sees Guardians exploring the depths of the Moon to fight off hordes of Thrall enemies and extract some valuable equipment.

Gamers will have more changes to look forward to during the seventh year of Destiny 2. Also announced in the Destiny Showcase is that seasons will be replaced with Episodes when The Final Shape releases. Instead of four seasons per year, players can expect three Episodes that will each run for four months and introduce new stories that take place after the events of The Final Shape expansion. The first Episode will begin during the final week of February 2024.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
