Highlights

  • The upcoming Exotic mission playlist in Destiny 2 will allow players to craft versions of old Exotic weapons, giving them new life and making them more accessible.
  • The playlist also opens the door for Exotic weapons that currently lack Exotic Catalysts to receive them in the future, enhancing their power and utility.
  • The updated crafting system in the playlist will bring balance to older Exotic weapons and make them more competitive with the newer legendary weapons that have been introduced in the game.

Destiny 2 retiring content has always been a touchy subject, but the Exotic mission playlist reviving old content isn't the only thing that makes this upcoming activity a big deal. While many players are already excited about having another chance to earn exclusive Exotic weapons, the playlist is bringing much more to Destiny 2, with plenty in store for later down the road as well.

Set to release in Season 22 of Destiny 2, the Exotic mission playlist will reintroduce vaulted content with a new twist on the rewards. Namely, the related Exotic weapon rewards will be craftable versions of the weapon, and multiple new Exotic Catalysts for these weapons will eventually be available. Additionally, the storylines, armor, and legendary weapons from the Seasons that each Exotic mission debuted in will also be included in the activity. The playlist will initially include the Exotic missions for Revision Zero, Dead Man's Tale, and Dead Messenger, with more coming at later dates.

Destiny 2’s New Exotic Mission Playlist Can Give Old Weapons New Life

Destiny 2 Emote Ready For Anything Titan

Allowing the Exotic weapons featured in the Exotic mission playlist to be craftable is going to be a game-changer. Additionally, with more Exotic weapons getting the same treatment as the Revision Zero Exotic pulse rifle, it could very well be the start of a new mass trend going forward. Regardless, being able to craft more Exotic weapons is still a sweet deal for some already powerful weaponry.

Not only can players soon have another chance to experience unique missions and earn exclusive Exotic weapon rewards, but the playlist has a lot of potential beyond that as well. Namely, the new playlist paves the way for weapons that don't currently have Exotic Catalysts to receive them soon.

Similar to how multiple Exotic Catalysts could be earned for the Revision Zero during Destiny 2's Season of the Seraph, other Exotic weapons will soon have Exotic Catalysts. This is a huge upgrade for some of these Exotic weapons, considering that they didn't previously have any Exotic Catalysts, to begin with. Before too long though, these Exotic weapons will allegedly have multiple Exotic Catalysts.

Another noteworthy addition that the Exotic mission playlist will bring is that the crafting system for the available weapons has been updated. Given how many new legendary weapon perks have been added to Destiny 2 since some of these particular Exotic weapons were introduced, this update is long overdue. Not to mention, crafted weapons also have access to enhanced versions of the legendary weapon perks. Some of the older Exotic weapons can feel outdated and underwhelming compared to the newest legendary weapons, but this change should help to balance things back in favor of Exotics.

Each Exotic mission will also reintroduce the episodic story elements that the missions featured in their initial debut, as well as bring back their related Season's legendary rewards. After the recent introduction of Deepsight Harmonizers, this means that the Exotic mission playlist is going to give players a chance to craft past Season's legendary weapons as well as the Exotic weapons. Even without relying on Deepsight Harmonizers, these missions will drop a Deepsight legendary weapon at least once a week. This is a huge step towards reducing FOMO in Destiny 2 that will give many players a reliable opportunity to obtain craftable versions of weapons that they might have missed out on.

While making old Exotic weapons craftable and reintroducing their related questlines back into the game is going to be great for Destiny 2, it's also just the beginning of what the new Exotic mission playlist will offer. As time goes on, more Exotic missions will be made available beyond the initial few, and each one will be bringing back plenty of additional rewards beyond the coveted Exotic weapons.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
