Bungie has issued an official statement on the future of Destiny 2, as it finds itself in the middle of a crisis. The past couple of days have been rough for Bungie as it has seemingly laid off around 100 people from its total workforce owing to the drop in Destiny 2’s popularity, which has left the fans concerned.

Currently, the Destiny 2 story is on the verge of concluding its long-running Light vs. Darkness saga with its upcoming Final Shape expansion; however, the recent events have painted a bleak picture regarding the game’s future. With the news of layoffs, unofficial reports also surfaced claiming that Bungie has delayed Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion by almost 4 months, and has also pushed the release of its upcoming game, Marathon, to 2025. Now, Bungie has released a statement addressing the current situation at the studio and its plans for the time to come.

Instead of a standard This Week in Destiny post that usually contains changes and updates regarding Destiny 2, Bungie released a statement addressing the layoffs. To start off, Bungie said that this week was “one of the most difficult weeks in our studio’s history, as we’ve parted ways with people we respect and admire.” The developer then went on to acknowledge how Lightfall and the subsequent Seasons didn’t meet players’ expectations and promised that the situation is going to change. Furthermore, to reassure the fans that Destiny 2 is in capable hands despite the layoffs, it also revealed that around 650 developers are working on the game.
