Bungie reveals a new project it has been working on by starting to archive and make every Destiny 2 custscene available through YouTube. Story has become a major piece to the Destiny 2 experience, something that wasn't always the case as the original game locked much of its lore and story behind an unlockable Grimoire card mechanic, pushing players to leave the game and sign into Bungie's website to read about everything from characters, events, and more.

While it's likely the cards were shaped by the difficult development period, Destiny 2 has taken the opposite approach and leaned harder into story elements and cutscenes, something that has only gotten stronger in the years after the game's initial launch. Unfortunately, bits and pieces of the Destiny 2 experience has been sunset including the vaulting of older campaigns like the Red War and even the fan favorite Forsaken campaign. However, Bungie is working on rectifying this situation through a new effort to archive all Destiny 2 cutscenes on its YouTube channel.

The announcement and reveal came through Bungie's weekly blog, a feature that apparently has been a hotly requested one from the fanbase. As of right now, the archiving efforts are being uploaded to the official Destiny 2 YouTube channel and goes all the way back to Season of the Lost. Players can then re-experience each story beat from The Witch Queen, and all of the following seasons including Risen, Haunted, Plunder, and Seraph.

Bungie promises that this is just the tip of the iceberg, with efforts to upload almost every other cutscene from the Destiny 2 experience with one or two seasons being added every few months. The post also answered a few questions regarding the effort, including confirming the fact that the cutscenes feature a variety of Guardian classes and races since the player characters specifically couldn't be added. In addition, Bungie asks that players leave full cutscene uploading to the studio, although various clips can still be used for player made videos or other content creation needs.

Although most fans would agree that the Lightfall campaign drops the ball in terms of storytelling, players have instead found that the current Season of Defiance was able to pick up the slack a bit. Focusing on the events of the Shadow Legion attacking Earth, players assisted characters like Mara Sov, Amanda Holliday, Mithrax, and Devrim as they work to free captured citizens of The Last City. The season also brought some big moments including a controversial death to a character that has been part of the franchise since the beginning.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
