Highlights

  • Crow's involvement with the Scorn, particularly The Fanatic, suggests there will be more to their character arcs in the future.
  • The enigmatic figures known as The Nine need more focus on the game's story.
  • Xivu Arath, the Hive God of War, has not yet been faced head-on by Guardians and may play a role in future episodes alongside her sister, Savathun.

With Destiny 2 slowly approaching its next DLC after the unfortunate delay to June 4, players are naturally wondering what characters are going to see a conclusion to the 10-year arc. With this, people begin to consider which characters could die in Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion, and which of these characters will live on and be the main forerunners of the next saga.

Players will want to keep note of the best strand weapons in Destiny 2 to optimize their builds in both PvE and PvP.

Both the heroes and villains of Destiny 2 are all intriguing characters with their own motivations, goals, and personalities. Some may argue that the villains are much more compelling, and thankfully, there are plenty of villains that Bungie can bring in and utilize to be the game's next big bad.

5 Crow

The Former Prince, Now Guardian, Has Connection To Many Things

Crow Spider Robe Hood Orange Eye Brooding Somber Space

Crow, formerly Uldren Sov, Prince of the Reef, has had a slowly developing arc since his revival. Throughout Forsaken, he had a big link to a villain called The Fanatic, a Scorn Chieftan who followed Uldren without question. In Season of the Lost from The Crow, there has been some dialogue about his guilt over his involvement with the Fanatic's presence. Being the leader of the Scorn in Forsaken, Uldren directly influenced the Scorn as a race.

While Uldren will see a conclusion to his current arc, it is hard to believe that Bungie will be finished with him as a character. Ever since his redemption in Season of the Lost, he has been a driving force in the narrative and is the reason that Guardians will be able to penetrate the portal and dive into the Pale Heart of the Traveler. If they kill him off or leave him as a character, he won't be able to complete his arc with the Scorn, which appears to be the focus of the Revenant Episode.

4 The Nine

Enigmatic Figures From Beyond That Need Some Focus

The Nine have an air of myth about them. They exist as entities whose goals are mainly unknown, making them feel like they make zero sense. Formerly being the hosts of the Trials of the Nine, the old competitive weekend PvP game mode, they now have had very little influence on the story, with their last direct involvement being in the Dares of Eternity game mode, released with the 30th Anniversary Event.

The Nine have always been ephemeral in the game's story, and aspects of them, such as the Starhorse, haven't been expanded upon. Players don't know their goals, but they had a short story influence in the Red War, cloaking the Red Legion's advances and allowing them to ambush the Last City. Perhaps the next saga could involve Guardians hunting down members of The Nine whose goals go against those of the City.

3 The Fanatic

The Foul & Immortal Leader Of The Scorn

destiny 2 the fanatic grandmaster

Aside from being a painfully annoying boss in Nightfalls, with some players even 'cheesing' him, Fikrul, The Fanatic, is the undying leader of the Scorn. He was a key part of the events in Forsaken as he was one of Uldren's most loyal and powerful followers due to Uldren's actions when Fikrul was still Eliksni. Uldren wished for Fikrul to be saved, and Riven granted this wish by infusing Darkness into him, essentially creating the first member of the Scorn.

Fikrul could be described as a more sympathetic villain as he had to learn of his father's (Uldren) death and endure the constant loss of Eliksni's lives, reanimating them as Scorn. A reunion between the once close allies would be incredibly powerful and exciting, as Bungie has made it clear that despite having his memories, The Crow is not Uldren Sov, meaning the bond that the two once shared is gone.

2 Savathun

The Witch Queen Is Still Out There

Destiny 2 Witch Queen Ending Cutscene Savathun Revived Ghost Lightbearer

In classic Savathun style, The Witch Queen is still kicking around after the events of Season of the Witch. After Eris drew upon Savathun's power to banish Xivu Arath from her own Throne World, making her mortal, Savathun revealed that she still retains her power despite Eris's tricks. However, she left her Ghost, Immaru, in Vanguard custody, giving the City the power to sever her connection to the Light and functional immortality if needed.

Destiny 2: Best Raid Exotics, Ranked

Destiny 2's best exotics come through as rewards within their challenging raids.

Savathun has always been a tricky villain to pin down, and thanks to her still having access to the Light and her power, time will only tell what she will do once the Witness is confronted. Savathun does have a history of playing both sides, with her effectively saving humanity due to her betrayal of Nezarec, but whether she could go through a redemption arc similar to The Crow is unknown and, honestly, rather unlikely.

1 Xivu Arath

The Hive God Of War Will Not Go Down Without A Fight

Destiny 2 Xivu Arath Season 22 Season of the Witch Story Cutscene

Xivu Arath, the Hive God of War, is the only member of the Hive God trio of Oryx, Xivu, and Savathun that the Guardians haven't faced head-on. Xivu has been a thorn in the side of Guardians with her antics in serving the Witness, but she seems to have been shut down thanks to the acts of Eris Morn, briefly eclipsing her power to banish her from her Throne World, allowing her to be slain in combat.

The trick with Xivu Arath, however, is that she gets stronger in battle as the very act of waging war worships her, making the conflict against her very challenging as a fully-fledged war would undoubtedly result in catastrophe, as realized by Rasputin, the Warmind, before his sacrifice. It is unlikely that Xivu Arath will play much of a role in The Final Shape as the central conflict is against The Witness. However, it is incredibly likely that we see her in the Heresy Episode revealed on the Episode roadmap. Whether this involves her death is unknown, but her presence will surely be felt in one way or another.
