Destiny 2's Season of the Risen is fast approaching its final weeks, and Bungie has already spent a good amount of time discussing some of the changes that players will see when the next season launches. Starting next week, Destiny 2 fans will be able to compete in the Guardian Games event up until the end of Season 16, and they will get to find new loot in the process, all while scoring points for their preferred classes. With Guardian Games comes a very interesting SMG that might surpass Funnelweb's Void 3.0 utility for many builds, as its new Origin Trait, Classy Contender, grants class ability energy on kills.

This SMG was datamined a few days ago, but Bungie officially confirmed its Origin Trait in today's TWAB, which also discussed all the various changes made to the associated event. In the same TWAB, Bungie also revealed what the new Ritual Weapon for Destiny 2 will be in Season 17 and what players can expect in terms of both old and new loot coming from the playlist activities.

The TWAB for Destiny 2 from last week outlined several changes coming to weapons in Season 17, and among them were a few affecting machine guns. These have been a long-forgotten weapon archetype because the niche they were supposed to fulfill didn't justify spending Heavy ammo for it, but coincidentally with the buffs, the Ritual Weapon for next Season is going to be a machine gun called Chain of Command. As customary, players will be able to get this gun from Rank 16 of the playlist vendors, but the weapon's perks and stats haven't been revealed yet.

The Nightfall rotation will seemingly only grow bigger with the addition of two old classics, the Horror's Least pulse rifle and the D.F.A. hand cannon. Some old weapons will be leaving the loot pool for Trials of Osiris, namely The Messenger and Shayura's Wrath, but two new guns are making their way into the game for Season 17: the Forgiveness sidearm and the Burden of Guilt fusion rifle. Another fusion rifle is coming to the regular Crucible playlist, this one by the name of Riptide, but Gambit and Strikes are also getting new weapons: the Dead Weight shotgun and the Strident Whistle bow.

It's worth noting that because there are no Stasis bows in Destiny 2 right now, it's not impossible that Strident Whistle will be the first. Also, with two new fusion rifles coming to the Crucible, Bungie's hints at the upcoming Destiny 2 Exotic armor piece that improves this specific weapon category further fall into place. Bungie's narrative team has also been praising Season 17 on Twitter, recently, and so far, it seems that it could be one of the best seasons yet.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
