Bungie has seen a pretty massive resurgence of success for Destiny 2 following it’s split from its Activision partnership. Bungie has a lot on its plate for the future as the company focuses on Destiny 2’s next generation details and what they mean for players using current hardware to play.

For now though, Bungie is addressing the current state of the game through its weekly “The Week at Bungie” blog posts, detailing changes coming to the game and Destiny 2’s community. However, this week’s post ended with the news that Bungie’s longtime Community Manager DeeJ would be leaving on November 6.

Anyone who follows Destiny 2 closely knows that the community surrounding the game is incredibly important to the team at Bungie. This year’s Bungie Day celebration on Twitter was a testament to that sentiment, and the mutual respect that fans and Bungie staff members have for each other. One of the leaders of the Destiny 2 community is Bungie’s own Community Manager DeeJ, who was been with the company since November 7, 2011. Unfortunately, DeeJ announced at his departure from Bungie next month at the end of the October 15 edition of “This Week at Bungie.”

Following details surrounding Destiny 2’s Festival of Light rewards and various fan projects surrounding Destiny 2, DeeJ ended the blog post with the announcement. DeeJ’s statement is very personal and shows just how much his position and the Destiny community means to him. He also touches on how much the team at Bungie has done for him, saying that “whoever warned that you should never meet your heroes didn’t have the chance to work in a place like this.”

For those invested in Bungie and Destiny 2, DeeJ’s farewell letter is well worth the read. However, it’s important to note that DeeJ assures he won’t disappear completely when November 7 rolls around. He makes a point to mention that Destiny 2’s Beyond Light is an experience that he and the community will share together. While DeeJ says he will be around in the weeks leading up to the expansion's launch on November 10, he will fade back into his role as a simple fan of Destiny 2 shortly after.

It’s a bittersweet farewell to be sure, as DeeJ has been a valuable member of Bungie’s team and the Destiny 2 community for almost a decade. However, it seems that he already has the next step in his professional journey lined up, which is reassuring to hear. As for Destiny 2, Bungie still has plenty of new content on the horizon with the end of the Season of Arrivals fast approaching. Regardless, whoever is next in line as Bungie’s Community Manager has quite the role to fill.
