While it isn't uncommon for some of Destiny 2's exotics to have alternate firing options, a player's recent discovery shows how a bug can turn the exotic auto rifle Quicksilver Storm into an extremely effective sniper rifle. Quicksilver Storm is already an eye-catching weapon between its damage output, flexible use, and unique physical design, even among an armory of exotic weapons which seemingly serve as a route for Bungie's art team to flex their proverbial design muscles. This bug is then ideal for players who love the design of the exotic auto rifle, as every weapon in the matching slot can all look like the Cloudstrider weapon.

The Quicksilver Storm was introduced to Destiny 2 as a pre-order bonus exotic for the game's most recent expansion, Lightfall, serving as a teaser of the civilization which had remained hidden on Neptune up to that point in the universe. In its base firing mode, the auto rifle fired kinetic ammo with seeking mini-rockets firing off every few rounds and, in turn, generated grenades that players could then fire in the weapon's alternate fire mode. Quicksilver Storm then received a catalyst following Lightfall's release, changing the weapon's damage class from Kinetic to Strand and generating Strand Tangles upon mini-rocket or grenade kills.

Being an exotic weapon, however, means players can only ever have it equipped in the Kinetic slot while having legendary weapons in the Energy and Heavy slots since the game allows one exotic to be equipped at a time. That said, Reddit user StarinElm has found a workaround for this which allows players to have a "Quicksilver Storm" armed at any time without actually having the weapon equipped. The bug effectively turns any weapon's physical appearance into the Quicksilver Storm, which Starin highlights in a post where their sniper rifle's body has become the exotic auto rifle.

It appears Starin isn't the only player to experience this bug, either, as several users responded to the post saying they've seen it happen with exotics in the other weapon slots as well. One such instance was from a Reddit user who said their friend experienced the same bug with the exotic sniper rifle Cloudstrike, saying any Energy weapon they changed to had the exotic sniper's body design. The only way they were able to stop the bug was to restart the game entirely.

As far as bugs go, this appears to be among the more humorous ones to have been found in Destiny 2. The game has always been rife with bugs and glitches, ranging in severity from non-invasive ones such as this one all the way to players accidentally creating new Destiny 2 characters. While it would not be surprising to see this bug sit around in the game while Bungie focuses on more serious issues and balancing, it is just as likely the upcoming Season of the Deep update could see the bug taken care of as a quick fix.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
