The Pleasure Gardens section of Destiny 2's Leviathan Raid can be pretty tough to beat but defeating the dogs is easier if players make proper use of their grenades. However, players may be wondering which grenades are the best for each Destiny 2 character class?

One Destiny 2 fireteam set out to answer that very question, as three players entered the Prestige version of Pleasure Gardens to test out their grenades. Since the war beasts have a lot of health and stand still, they provide an easy test subject for calculating damage without a lot of variables. Even so, the fireteam noticed "some variance" as a result of "grenade behavior/placement randomness and/or wall/tree obstruction," but they were able to tally up how much each grenade deals.

The top 10 grenades for damage are:

1

Hunter-Nightstalker-Voidwall

39,387

2

Hunter-Nightstalker-Spike

29,652

3

Warlock-Dawnblade-Solar (With Sunbracers)

29,032 (+/- 500) (15,348 without Sunbracers)

4

Titan-Striker-Lightning

28,426

5

Titan-Striker-Pulse

28,388

6

Hunter-Nightstalker-Vortex

26,498

7

Warlock-Stormcaller-Pulse

20,828

8

Titan-Sunbreaker-Thermite

19,500 (+/- 2,000)

9

Titan-Sentinel-Voidwall

19,496

10

Warlock-Voidwalker-Vortex

17,048 (Charged)

After the test, the team notes that "Although Hunters have the strongest grenades, the striker titan still out-damages them because the striker gets 2 grenades." Moreover, the "nightstalker used the lower tree for the increased grenade duration."

For those that are curious, the Arcstrider's Skip Grenade only deals 2,627 (+/- 150), making it the weakest grenade against a single target. The Stormcaller Warlock and Arc Strider Hunter's Arcbolt weren't much better, dealing only 3,402 damage.

The data collected by the fireteam is incredibly useful for other Destiny 2 players looking to get the most damage out of their grenades. But some have noted that damage isn't everything when it comes to grenades and that the highest-damage dealing grenade may not be the best one to choose for certain encounters.

Players have to take into account enemies that could move out of the area of effect (AOE), rendering that higher damage useless. Damage per second (DPS) can also be just as important as overall damage. Moreover, some grenades require better aim to be effective and so players should take that into account when picking a loadout too.

Unsurprisingly, the Destiny 2 grenade data has also been met with calls for Bungie to buff some of the projectiles on the lower end of the scale. Although Bungie regularly makes buffs and nerfs to Destiny 2 loadouts based on player versus player (PvP) modes, those buffs and nerfs may not translate well to player versus environment (PvE) activities such as the Leviathan raid.

Now that fans have data rather than just anecdotal evidence, more will be calling upon the developer to make additional tweaks. It will be interesting to see if, or how, Bungie reacts and if that will shake the grenade damage chart up.

Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
