Destiny 2's The Witch Queen brought along many changes to all Void subclasses, now making them more streamlined and similar to the Stasis system of Aspects and Fragments introduced with Beyond Light. Destiny 2's Void 3.0 update opened many more build options across the board for all three classes, as each of them got three unique Aspects and shared Fragments to combine for interesting results.

Because the new Void 3.0 changes are many, and because some builds are better than others if paired with the correct pieces of gear, this guide is meant to go through the best DPS build for Void Hunters, specifically.

Best Endgame DPS Build for Void Hunter - Mods and Exotics

Although Destiny 2's Void Hunters have one of the most peculiar and powerful support builds for endgame activities in the form of team-wide invisibility through the Omnioculus Exotic chest armor, this guide is aimed at tackling the DPS aspect of Hunter builds. This is mostly for Raid DPS or for bursting down powerful enemy bosses in endgame activities, and players should note that this is intended to understand what the most optimal setup is.

Destiny 2 Orpheus Rig

The best Exotics to use on Void Hunters in order to increase their DPS are Orpheus Rig and Star-Eater Scales, as they both dramatically increase the damage output of the Moebius Quiver Super. Moebius Quiver is currently one of the best Supers in Destiny 2 when it comes to burst damage, and that's because of the changes it underwent with The Witch Queen, where it now can be used as two volleys of three arrows to shorten its cast time.

The Orpheus Rig Exotic boots now add a third volley to Moebius Quiver, making it insanely powerful on its own, and also quite fast at dealing its full damage. Star-Eater Scales, on the other hand, increase the damage of the Super the more Orbs of Power players manage to pick up before casting it, up to a maximum of eight stacks.

A full cast of Moebius Quiver with Orpheus Rig, hitting all three volleys, deals around 464k total damage on a boss, and that's without further increases in Power deriving from mods or non-intrinsic buffs or debuffs. These numbers were obtained by Destiny 2 YouTuber and content creator Scrub while testing the Super on Rhulk from the Vow of the Disciple Raid.

A full cast of Moebius Quiver with Star-Eater Scales, under the same conditions and hitting both volleys, deals around 538k total damage to a boss. It's worth noting that this is with a full stack of Feast of Light, meaning that the Super was cast after having gathered at least eight Orbs of Power at full Super charge.

In order for Star-Eater Scales to outdamage Orpheus Rig, assuming players can hit all arrows from all volleys, the Feast of Light buff has to be stacked at least five times.

In the same testing that Scrub did, they discovered that casting Moebius Quiver with the Devour buff active and the new Season of the Risen mod Devouring Depths equipped substantially increased the DPS of both versions.

A full cast of Moebius Quiver with Orpheus Rig and Devouring Depths, under the same conditions as before, hit for a total of 608k damage. The same test, this time with both Star-Eater Scales and Devouring Depths, yielded a result of around 704k total damage on Rhulk, which is roughly 100k more damage than Orpheus Rig.

As a rule of thumb, Star-Eater Scales outperform the damage dealt by Orpheus Rig, but they do require more set up beforehand, and missing a single arrow is more punishing than missing one from Orpheus Rig. Furthermore, not all bosses have enough adds to spawn for players to generate and then collect Orbs of Power, leading to Orpheus Rig being the best option there, and Star-Eater Scales elsewhere. An example is the Caretaker encounter in Destiny 2's Vow of the Disciple Raid, where collecting eight Orbs of Power prior to every DPS phase is not an easy task.

As such, which Exotic should be used in this build is not as straightforward as one would think, but both these options deal incredible amounts of damage on their own, and even more so with Devouring Depths active. In Season of the Risen, there are no other powerhouse mods that players should use in this build, leaving plenty of room for all sorts of combinations for either add-clearing, healing, applying debuffs, and becoming more resilient.

Best Endgame DPS Build for Void Hunter - Weapons

The best weapon options for DPS in Season of the Risen are more streamlined across all classes, and they are Izanagi's Burden and Palmyra-B for the sniper/rocket hot-swapping technique. What players need to do is to have an Izanagi's Burden with its catalyst equipped and a Palmyra-B rocket launcher crafted with the Enhanced Auto-Loading Holster perk. This allows players to shoot Izanagi's Burden, use its alternate reload, and immediately swap back to Palmyra-B to shoot a rocket, then rinse and repeat.

This strategy is not necessarily the absolute best on Stasis Hunters for DPS because they have access to reliable ways of proccing Font of Might in boss fights, increasing the overall damage of the combo. Void Hunters don't have such luxury, but if a given boss fight allows for a consistent generation of Void Elemental Wells to pair with Font of Might, then Destiny 2 players should drop the Izanagi's Burden/Palmyra-B and instead use a Father's Sins sniper rifle.

Father's Sins is a craftable weapon in Destiny 2, and it's a Void sniper rifle for the Energy slot. It can be crafted with Enhanced Triple Tap and Enhanced Focused Fury, making it an exceptional weapon to deal damage to bosses in a short time span. Enhanced Triple Tap removes the perk's requirement of hitting consecutive precision hits to proc it, which makes it more forgiving to use on bosses if players end up missing a shot or hitting a non-critical spot.

Focused Fury provides a 20% damage increase to the weapon if players manage to land enough precision hits to equal half of the weapon's base magazine, which will often mean either two or three in the case of Father's Sins. The Enhanced version of Focused Fury simply increases the buff's duration and is therefore not really needed to make this sniper rifle shine.

Lastly, assuming Void Elemental Wells are still on the table, Destiny 2 players should use a Threaded Needle for boss damage in place of the Palmyra-B rocket launcher. Threaded Needle is a Void linear fusion rifle that can roll with multiple amazing perks, such as Rapid Hit, Clown Cartridge, Vorpal Weapon, and Frenzy. By increasing its damage with Void Elemental Wells and Font of Might, players can turn this new combo into a boss-shredding machine.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
