Crota's End is back and with a vengeance. As one of the more challenging Day 1 experiences, the relatively short raid managed to put the challenge back into Destiny 2 thanks to its tough and aggressive enemy AI. It's not just the difficulty that returned to the game with Crota's End released, but several iconic weapons that fans might fondly remember from the first iteration of Destiny. From the famed Exotic Necrochasm to the Word of Crota, there's a lot of nostalgia in the roster of weapons that have come back.

Although hand cannons received a lot of help at the beginning of the Season of the Witch, Word of Crota still belongs to the bottom of the list due to being a 180 RPM hand cannon. That means most players won't be giving it a proper chance, especially in PVP.

On the PVE side of things, it does show some potential. As a Void weapon, it gains Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds into its perk pool, which can create an interesting combo with good Void subclass synergy.

Swordbreaker has returned as a Strand weapon, which makes it interesting on the PVE side. It's a Lightweight Frame weapon, too, so handling and mobility won't be an issue with this weapon. That said, it's a shotgun, and in PVE there are far stronger shotguns that currently outshine it (like Heritage and Conditional Finality).

With Destiny 2 approaching the end of the Lightfall era, which weapons should players craft as soon as possible?

Considering Swordbreaker's Strand affinity, it might be worth testing for those who like to have a bit of synergy between their subclass element and weapon element. Threat Detector is a great perk for close-range weapons like shotguns, buffing stability, reload, and handling when enemies are close to the player. Meanwhile, One-Two Punch works well with any melee-oriented builds, as it buffs melee damage for players when they land every pellet in Swordbreaker's shot.

Auto rifles are back on the menu in full force, and Abyss Defiant is a decent option from the raid, though certainly not the top PVE choice that players have in the whole of Destiny 2. Its High-Impact Frame splits opinions among players who might prefer something with rapid fire.

For this Solar auto rifle, the ideal combination is Reconstruction so that the magazine reloads over time. Incandescent is the best pick between it and Target Lock, considering that auto rifles will hardly ever linger on tankier enemies that would take advantage of Target Lock's effects. Incandescent also makes it a good weapon to pair with any Solar builds that deal a lot of scorch damage.

On to the top hitters of the raid, Fang of Ir Yut is among the best three as a Strand scout rifle. Its Rapid Fire Frame makes it quite desirable, and being a Strand weapon, it can potentially synergize well with a few select Strand builds.

Rewind Rounds helps to avoid reloading the weapon once the magazine is completely empty. Meanwhile, Sword Logic buffs its damage with each final hit. Even if scout rifles are not always the go-to in PVE, Fang of Ir Yut can compete with other strong weapons in the archetype quite easily.

The heavy weapon of choice for Crota's End is an Arc machine gun, Song of Ir Yut. Machine guns are doing well in the meta generally speaking, so this Arc version that can at least partially contend with the likes of Commemoration is well worth the player's investment.

Destiny 2's best raid bosses have some incredible strengths that are only truly displayed in the lore, begging the question of who is the strongest.

Reconstruction is a given with machine guns that take a while to reload, as it bypasses that need entirely. To pair with it, Target Lock works well for sustained damage on larger targets, but Sword Logic is also an interesting choice for a more ad-clear oriented weapon.

At the top of Crota's End weapons is Oversoul Edict, an Arc pulse rifle with a Rapid Fire Frame. If SMGs continue to receive nerfs, having a solid pulse rifle is a must in Destiny 2. What makes Oversoul Edict stand out from the rest of the available options is its Arc subclass synergy in the form of Voltshot, which jolts and blinds targets. To make things even better, The Final Shape will increase a buff in damage for pulse rifles in PvE, providing further reason to pick this one up now before it gets too popular.

Demolitionist is a perk that fits perfectly in most subclass builds that rely on grenade recharge rate. Not only will it help with skipping reloads, but it also grants a bit of grenade energy with each kill. And given how much ability spam still matters in the game, it's almost always one of the best perks to have, regardless of the weapon in question.
