With the Last Wish raid weapons now craftable in Destiny 2 as of Season of the Deep, the Solar rocket launcher Apex Predator is looking like one of the strongest heavy weapon picks in the game—at least as long as the current rocket launcher meta prevails. While previously somewhat underwhelming, Apex Predator can now roll with some of the best damage perks in the game, making it one of the best weapons to craft first from the Last Wish raid.

Destiny 2: Subjunctive God Rolls

The Subjunctive returns in Season of the Wish with a fresh set of perks meant for cleaving through Destiny 2's PvE content.

Before heading into the Last Wish raid, players should head to the Tower and speak with Hawthorne to grab the weekly O Deepsight Mine quest. This will give one guaranteed, desired weapon drop to players if they complete every encounter of the raid and return to Hawthorne.

Updated on January 9, 2024, by Anastasia Maillot: The Apex Predator rocket launcher has retained a solid position in the DPS meta of the game. With the game now in its final season before the delayed release of The Final Shape, it's an excellent time for players to go in and grab any missing Deepsight patterns for weapons they might need. While the DPS meta of The Final Shape is still unknown, rocket launchers have been in a powerful state for quite some time now, and it's unlikely they will be rivaled by other weapons any time soon—depending on the type of boss encounter, of course. So, those planning on doing the Day One raid of The Final Shape expansion, here's how to get the Apex Predator rocket launcher and what its god roll is.

How To Get The Apex Predator Rocket Launcher In Destiny 2

Destiny 2-Kalli-Last Wish Boss

The Apex Predator rocket launcher drops in any encounter of the Last Wish raid. This is good news because the first encounter of the raid is easily farmable. Players can grab the checkpoint for Kalli, the raid's first boss, and play through the fight over and over again for a chance to get an Apex Predator rocket launcher to drop.

Even if the drop isn't a red-border one, those with a Deepsight Harmonizer to spare can use it to grab one pattern they might be missing. Note that five total patterns are required for the Apex Predator to become craftable.

Weaponcrafting in Destiny 2 is free for everyone, though accessing this mechanic can be a little confusing for new players. Here's how to do it.

As mentioned previously, completing the raid with the O Deepsight Mine quest (which requires completing all of Last Wish's encounters) also grants players an additional Deepsight weapon of their choice from Hawthorne.

Apex Predator Rocket Launcher God Roll

Destiny 2 Apex Predator Rocket Launcher

Following a few months of testing, the final god roll perk combination for Apex Predator is:

  • Quick Launch
  • Impact Casing
  • Reconstruction
  • Bait and Switch

Reconstruction allows weapons to reload themselves progressively over time, so it works as a form of Auto-Loading Holster in this case. However, players on a grenadier build, such as Warlocks, can also utilize Demolitionist, which reloads the rocket launcher whenever players activate their grenade ability. That said, given that Starfire Protocol was recently nerfed quite heavily, even Warlocks may still opt to go for Reconstruction if they run a different Solar Exotic.

Bait and Switch is the main damage-dealing perk here. When players deal damage with their other weapons before drawing Apex Predator, the weapon receives a 35% damage boost. This stacks with Solar surges, so running triple Solar surge on top of this ensures players will have access to a bucket load of damage.

Bait and Switch can ideally be activated with a powerful Kinetic weapon like Izanagi's Burden or Witherhoard for an extra burst of damage, as well as a second weapon of choice. Even running double Special weapons can be a powerful play when it comes down to it. It opens up the opportunity for some interesting Energy weapons to be included in a damage rotation, including fusion rifles for example, which are slowly coming back.
