Destiny 2's Competitive PvP mode received a significant rework prior to the launch of Lightfall, turning it from a regular playlist with different game modes and stricter matchmaking into a proper, ladder-based experience where players can compete for the top spot. This rework naturally included a new ranking system that gives players a better sense of where they stand.

Players will have to work their way up from scratch if they want to square off against the best Guardians in Destiny 2's PvP scene. Here's the complete list of Competitive ranks to help aspiring champions keep track of their progress more easily.
Destiny 2 Competitive Crucible Division Ranks
The Competitive Crucible ranks are different from the standard Crucible Reputation ranks — the latter tracks your rewards progress with Lord Shaxx, while the former dictates your overall standing in the Competitive playlist. The full list of Competitive Crucible ranks, from lowest to highest, is as follows:
- Copper III-I
- Bronze III-I
- Silver III-I
- Gold III-I
- Platinum III-I
- Adept III-I
- Ascendant III-I
At the start of every season, players must complete seven placement matches in order to get their first Competitive Division rank. The better you perform in these matches, the higher the division you'll land in after the series. You don't necessarily have to win these first seven matches, as personal performance appears to have a stronger impact on your initial placement.
Once you finish your placement matches, you'll then begin to get matched with other players within your division or, at the very least, against players who are close to your skill level. Matches will become more intense from here.
Destiny 2 Exotic Catalysts That Should Get the Season 22 Treatment
Bungie reworked several exotic catalyst objectives in Season 22 of Destiny 2, but there are still a few others that could use the same treatment.
To reach a new subdivision (from Gold III to Gold II, for example), you'll need to earn 500 Competitive Division points by either winning or performing well in a match. Winning while also being the best player in the lobby grants the most points. If you lose a game, you'll lose points, but the amount of points lost can be minimized if you play well during the match.
Take note that if you're in Gold III and above, you'll passively lose Competitive Division points if you don't play in the Competitive playlist for an extended period of time. You will get demoted if you ignore the Competitive playlist, so make sure to get a couple of games in before the weekly reset comes to maintain your rank. Failing to play in the Competitive playlist can demote you all the way down to Silver I.
It's good practice to get at least three Competitive games done each week for a shot at getting the current season's Competitive Division reward. Weapons like Rose and Mercurial Overreach can only be obtained from the Crucible's Competitive playlist, though players will still be able to acquire these weapons by focusing Crucible Engrams with Lord Shaxx.
