Demon's Souls Remake is Bluepoint Games' refurbished and improved version of FromSoftware's first-ever Souls game. It is a love letter to the original title and a gift to Souls fans all around the world. Upon release, the game was immediately praised for its incredible visuals and its unwavering loyalty to the instant classic it's remaking.
One of the many things people love about Demon's Souls and other Souls games, in general, is its subtlety and obscurity. There are so many hidden details in Demon's Souls Remake regardless if it's about the story or just minor things that not everyone who plays the game will be able to uncover even just an inkling of them.
10 The Secret Door
At this point, a vast majority of the game's fans already know about the enigmatic door that's placed behind an illusory wall in World 1-3. However, due to the sheer amount of effort and dedication it takes to actually open the door, not that many people bothered to uncover this secret.
A player needed to find Ceramic Coins, which can only be picked up on Mirrored Mode in Pure White or Pure Black World Tendency, collect 26 of them, and give these to Sparkly the Crow in exchange for the Rusted Key. This will take two playthroughs to complete. Those who managed and were willing to do this tedious task were gifted with the Penetrator Armor.
9 Meeting The Dragon God Early On
One thing that is common in Souls games is that the very first boss is actually more of a tutorial encounter rather than an actual boss a player needs to defeat in order to move forward. Well, as Souls veterans will back up, Demon's Souls Remake's first boss can actually be defeated, like many first bosses in Souls games.
Defeating the Vanguard Demon will teleport the players to the Unknown Egress, where they will obtain a couple of items as a reward, and meet the Dragon God very early on. The Dragon God will then let the players know that the game is not what they expected it to be by killing them right then and there, sending them to the Nexus as intended.
8 Magic Sword "Makoto"
The Magic Sword Makoto is a Demon's Souls weapon not that many know about, unfortunately, much less wield. This sword is found in The Ritual Path, right around the area where Patches The Hyena kicks the player in. The reason why not that many people have stumbled upon this weapon is that the world needs to be in Pure White Tendency.
The weapon, despite its name, doesn't actually deal any magic damage. It does deal with a fair amount of slashing and piercing damage. It also drains the player's health to complete depletion. Satsuki, a different NPC in the game, will attack the players on sight if they are wielding this weapon when they approach him.
7 Rescuing Yuria
Those who have played the original Demon's Souls know how simple it is to rescue Yuria. A player will simply need to wear the Fat Official Hat and obtain the Iron Ring of Keys, which incidentally can both be found in the Tower Knight Archstone. In the remake, however, rescuing Yuria is a little bit more complicated than that.
If the players head to Yuria's cell, equip the Official Hat, only to find that the Fat Official above won't lower the staircase for them, it's because they need to equip the complete Fat Official set this time around. Each item can be looted off a Fat Official's corpse. The gloves and the leggings can be found in 2 - 1, and the clothes in 2 - 2.
6 Mephistopheles' Questline
Mephistopheles is an NPC not that many people will encounter for the fact that the players will need to be in Pure Black Character Tendency in order to meet her. They will also need to kill a different NPC named Yurt, who is found in the Fool's Idol Archstone, before Mephistopheles will become available to interact with in the Nexus.
It is highly suggested that the players should only do Mephistopheles' questline in New Game Plus, if they've completed the game once already, or if they're really aiming for a Pure Black Character Tendency run, as this questline will have them murder the other NPCs in the Nexus in exchange for items and other valuables.
5 Stockpile Thomas' Questline
Stockpile Thomas is a very useful NPC in the game. He can be found just sitting in the Nexus, without the player having to find him anywhere in the world outside. He will store any items the players leave him, which is highly important considering the game's carry limit mechanic.
What not that many people know, however, is the fact that Stockpile Thomas has a very short, yet heart-wrenching questline. In world 1 - 1, there are two bodies that are hung with chains from a balcony on a tower. These chains can actually be cut down, dropping the bodies, allowing the players to loot items from them. One of these items is the Jade Hair Ornament, which can be given to Stockpile Thomas for the Ring of Herculean Strength. This will also let the players know of Thomas' back story.
4 A Competent Ally Against The Penetrator
The Penetrator, like many other bosses in Demon's Souls, is an incredibly tough competitor. Of course, any Souls veterans will be able to best this demon without too much struggle, but a little help will go a long way. In this case, however, one particular NPC will actually be a massive help in dealing with the Penetrator, so much so that he's even capable of defeating the boss himself.
The NPC in question here is Biorr. He can be rescued in world 1- 3, right before Yuria's tower. Once he is rescued, he will be summoned before Penetrator's boss room, where he will then fight alongside the player. He is so competent in this fight that he is even able to defeat the Penetrator himself.
3 Providential Ring
This ring may be easily available by choosing it as a starting item during the character customization before the game begins, or if the player bought the deluxe edition, but those who aren't under these two umbrellas found it near-impossible to earn the Platinum trophy for the game as it is a prerequisite for it.
Well, as it turns out, there actually is a way of getting this item without having to choose it as a starting gift or purchasing the deluxe edition of the game. The players simply need to trade the Large Sword of Searching to Sparkly the Crow in exchange for the said ring.
2 The Cat From The Cat Ring
One of the funniest quirks in the original Demon's Souls game is the buff image for the Cat Ring, which featured an image of an actual cat. Whether this was intentional or not is unclear, but it's a quirk many have welcomed and embraced. With this in mind, when the remake of the game was released, many then picked up the Cat Ring as soon as possible to see if the beloved cat was still present.
As expected, the cat wasn't there anymore, instead replaced with a proper buff image similar to the other items in the game. What many people don't realize, however, is that the very same image of this cat can be found pinned to a tree during the end credit scene.
1 The Newly Added Shortcut
The game's final stage is incredibly difficult to get through for many reasons, but one stands out more than the others. The pathway towards the tower where the dragon lingers can be highly excruciating to go through again and again. Veterans have suffered this hardship and newcomers have experienced it as well. Thankfully, Bluepoint Games actually added a shortcut that will allow the players to skip this path altogether.
There is a lever in this area, behind the tower, that the players can activate, allowing them to use a shortcut instead. This skips the bridge and leads right up to the foot of the tower, during the dragon's second phase.
