For several years now, it has been a mystery what Bluepoint Games, the studio behind several remakes including Shadow of the Colossus, is working on. However, all speculation was put to rest when Sony unveiled at last June's PlayStation 5 event that Bluepoint Games is developing a remake of the 2009 classic title, Demon's Souls.

Of course, the news that Demon's Souls is getting a remake has since sparked excitement among its fanbase, who have long been requesting for a reimagining of the game. Now that Demon's Souls is only a few days away from release, here is everything players should know about the upcoming remake including its features, gameplay, and differences from the original.

As announced, Demon's Souls will be released on November 12, 2020, alongside the PS5, making it one of the next-gen console's launch titles. It was also confirmed that Demon's Souls will be a PS5 exclusive, which means that it won't be releasing to the Xbox or even the PS4. During the announcement, Bluepoint Games explained that the reason why the game won't release to the PS4 is to allow the developers to focus and take full advantage of the technological marvels of the PS5. Making it exclusive to Sony's next-generation console also allowed developers to include features such as ray-tracing and offer better graphics at a higher framerate.

What is Demon's Souls About?

Demon's Souls is originally a PS3 game developed by From Software back in 2009. In a way, Demon's Souls is the spiritual predecessor of From Software's Dark Souls, which became a critical and commercial success thanks to its crushing difficulty and challenging bosses. The game puts players in the role of a lone warrior who finds himself in the kingdom of Boletaria that is currently overtaken by a mysterious colorless fog. The player is tasked in defeating demons with the help of the Maiden in Black, and save the kingdom of Boletaria.

In the upcoming remake, Bluepoint Games confirmed that Demon's Souls will remain faithful to the original, so as not to cause any negative impact for veteran players. However, the studio also reassured fans that the Demon's Souls remake will offer a fresh experience to players with new weapons, armor, rings, and several new items including Grains, which will give players temporary resistance to damage effects like fire, poison, and bleeding.

Demon Souls PS5 Features and Gameplay

Apart from the confirmation from Bluepoint Games, the gameplay trailers revealed so far also showed that the remake will offer a faithful experience to the original game while featuring superior graphics running at 60 fps. Moreover, Sony Interactive Entertainment Creative Director Gavin Moore, talked about how the PS5's SSD helped Bluepoint Games realize the true potential of the Demon's Souls remake. In the remake, the game will bring players immediately back into action after they die, which will help keep players immersed in combat.

It is worth remembering that in Bloodborne, which is another game under From Software's 'Soulsbourne' genre, players would have to wait from 30 seconds to a minute before getting back in action after dying. Now, it appears that Demon's Souls will take players back to the game at lightning speeds thanks to the PS5's SSD. Additionally, the Demon's Souls remake will also give players two graphical modes to choose from: a high-resolution 4K mode, and a high-frame rate mode. In terms of audio, Sony has revealed that Demon's Souls will take advantage of the PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech, which will make the game sound more immersive and the console's DualSense controller will feature haptic feedback.
