DemonSlayer is currently airing its second season. The first half saw the Mugen Train arc being turned into a number of episodes. Like the Mugen Train arc, the Entertainment District is focused on an Upper-Rank demon and a Hashira. The Mugen Train arc saw Rengoku fighting against Akaza, and losing his life in the process.
Demon Slayer's Entertainment District arc focuses on a pair of demons, who hold the position of Upper-Rank Six. The two demons have been terrorizing Yoshiwara, a city that never sleeps With the arc rushing towards its climax, there is still a lot that remains unknown about Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira.
Tengen's Past
Much of Tengen's past remains a mystery, but there are a few details that have been divulged to the fans. Before becoming a Hashira, Tengen Uzui was a shinobi. He was born into a family of shinobi and his father was very strict about their training. Tengen's father ruthlessly trained all of his children and the result of such severe training was that Tengen almost all of his siblings except his younger brother.
Another huge drawback of Tengen's training was that his younger brother also became cold and heartless like his father. After having his fill of the violence and apathy, Tengen left his family and joined the Demon Corps, and slowly rose to the position of a Hashira.
Tengen's Flamboyant Personality
Ever since he made his first appearance, Tengen Uzui came off as a person who liked to stand out. His flashy personality makes him extremely funny, and it left Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and Inosuke perplexed at times. Despite his extravagant style, Tengen is very serious about his job and the people close to him. He only turned up to Tanjiro and the others' location because he wanted to find out what happened to his three wives.
Tengen strongly opposes the kunoichi code, which states the wives have to throw their lives away for their husband. Like Rengoku, Tengen believes that humanity should not be underestimated by demons. Despite being a Hashira, Tengen Uzui does not think of himself as highly as the other Hashira. When Gyutaro called him talented, Tengen simply laughed it off and denied that he had any talent. While Tengen might appear to have a case of megalomania, it clearly is a charade as he is very caring and humble. He risked his life to save the humans that were trapped in the building with Daki and Gyutaro. He also considers Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as splendid underlings.
Tengen's Physical Abilities
As a Hashira, Tengen Uzui is an incredible fighter. From his first appearance, his speed left everyone awestruck. Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu had an extremely torrid time while trying to match his speed. Tengen has enhanced hearing prowess, which allows him to hear sounds that are normally impossible to pick up for a human ear. His enhanced hearing abilities allow Tengen to use echolocation, which allows him to find locations that are extremely difficult to find.
When it comes to physical abilities, Tengen is considered to be the second strongest Hashira. No Hashira can outpace him in a race, which is a big testament to his skills. His ridiculous speed allows him to dodge and react to attacks that could easily kill an ordinary person. During his first encounter with Daki, Tengen beheaded her so quickly that she had no idea about what had happened.
Due to his immense physical strength, Tengen can easily wield dual Nichirin blades to the point where he could hold the tip of his blade with just a couple of fingers. The shinobi training that Tengen Uzui received as a young boy helped to enhance his skills even further. The training made Tengen resistant to poison, which played a big role in the fight against Gyutaro as the latter's blades were imbued with a lethal poison that could easily lead to death.
Sound Breathing
Tengen Uzui utilizes a special type of Breathing Style known as Sound Breathing. Sound Breathing has been derived from Thunder Breathing, which makes it an inferior style of breathing. Nonetheless, it is a powerful Breathing Style and so far only Tengen Uzui has been seen using this style. Sound Breathing copies sounds and then imitates the user's fighting style.
With the help of Sound Breathing, Tengen has created a specific technique, which is known as Musical Score. To make this technique work, Tengen reads the opponent's movements, and then he begins to deconstruct them into sound, which allows him to assess the rhythm of the target's movements. This allows Tengen a great advantage in battle as he is able to find chinks in his enemies' fighting style.
While he may come off as extremely flashy, Tengen has an intelligent head on his shoulders. He has been shown formulating elaborate strategies, which almost enabled him to slice off Gyutaro's head. There is no doubt that Tengen is an impressive fighter, but above all, he is an incredible person, who loves his underlings, and he is willing to go to any lengths to protect humans from the threats of demons.
