Head In The Clouds

demon slayer Muichiro Tokito anime

Muichiro's first appearance in the anime is in episode 22 of season 1, when the Hashira are summoned to settle on Tanjiro's fate for harboring a demon as a Demon Slayer. While the rest of the Hashira voice their own opinions on what should befall Tanjiro, Muichiro seems completely jaded from it all. He is seen looking at the sky, engrossed in the clouds while everyone else is focusing on Tanjiro's crime. In fact, Muichiro's very first line in the anime is "What was the shape of that cloud again?". Even while the rest of the Hashira are questioning Tanjiro, Muichiro is still sleepily looking to the sky, wondering about the name of a bird circling above. When the Master of the Mansion decides on what should happen to Tanjiro, Muichiro's response was that he is fine with any decision because he will forget anyway.

It appears that Muichiro has no interest in what is happening in front of him. It is quite humorous that amidst all the opinions regarding this imperative decision, Muichiro is dreaming in his own head. He appears to be obtuse and dazed.

The Wonder Kid

Being only fourteen years old, Muichiro is the youngest Hashira - even younger than Tanjiro. Therefore, it is no surprise that his mind would rather drift off on to other things and not deeply important decisions such as whether Tanjiro should live or die. He may even be quite physically strong despite his youth and small size. During the deliberation over Tanjiro for traveling with a demon in tow, he flicks a few pebbles at Tanjiro that render him unconscious, saying that it was disrespectful to interrupt the Master. If he can knock a fellow Demon Slayer out cold with two fingers and some small stones, perhaps Muichiro is much stronger than initially perceived to be.

In season 2 of the anime, Tengen mentions that Muichiro attained Hashira status merely two months after picking up a blade. Muichiro clearly exhibits superior discipline and raw talent that was harnessed into a highly skilled Demon Slayer at such a tender age. He is indeed a child prodigy, something which was noticed in his younger days.

Fighting Style

Muichiro Tokito, The Mist Hashira in Demon Slayer

Muichiro is the Mist Hashira, and therefore utilizes Mist Breathing. This form stems from Wind Breathing, a Breathing Style currently used by Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira. Mist is created and controlled by the user to replicate the cloudy nature of mist. This invokes confusion in the victim of the attack, allowing the user to strike. To add to this effect, this could be the reason Muichiro wears baggy clothes, to obscure his bodily movements just like the mist. The overthrow of expectations may very well be part of Muichiro's fighting strategy. On top of his Mist Breathing, Muichiro also wields a white Nichirin sword.
