One would thank that a cast full of Demon Slayers would have a plethora of honorable personae, however, that is not necessarily the case. Having to battle the darkness daily has left many Hashida blinded by hatred. Even though they may be fighting for an honorable cause, it does not automatically qualify these Slayers as virtuous.

Not every Demon Slayer character sees the world in black and white and has allowed themselves to decide for themselves, as long as it aligns with their moral code. These people have risked their lives to stand up for their beliefs, earning them the title of the most honorable individuals in the series.

Some details discuss events not yet in the Demon Slayer anime series.

10 Zenitsu: The Coward

Demon Slayer Zenitsu Agatsuma

Zenitsu Agatsuma is renowned for being the biggest coward in the series, but somehow he manages to face his fears on a daily basis to protect those in need. The only reason that Zenitsu even applied this dangerous position was so he could honor his debts amassed from showering his spoilt paramour with gifts.

Zenitsu surprises everyone when he stands up to Kaigaku, enraged by his blatant disrespect towards their deceased mentor, Jigoro Kuwajima. The usually timid boy finds a surge of confidence when protecting others and musters up the strength to fight his fears; not for his sake, but for those he holds dear to his heart.

9 Sabito: The Slayed

demon slayer Sabito anime

As a former student of Sakonji Urokodaki, Sabito entered the Final Selection ceremony alongside Giyuu Tomioka and a group of other potential Demon Slayers, and yet he was the only one not to walk out alive. The Hand Demon had been biding its time on Mount Fujikasane, slowly gaining power as he picked the children off one by one.

During the crucial exam, Sabito saught the demon out, aware that he may not succeed, but sacrificing himself nonetheless to save the rest of the initiates from the same fate. While the Hand Demon remained undefeated, Sabito's ghost would not rest until it could assist in ending its evil reign and put his all into training Tanjiro for the task.

8 Giyu: The Righteous

Demon Slayer Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka

Even though Giyu Tomioka is a stickler for rules, he does not possess a blind hatred for all demons like the other members of the Demon Slayer Corps do and is willing to grant individuals a fair chance to prove themselves. Giyu first takes a risk by allowing Nezuko to live, even putting his good name on the line when enlisting Sakonji to help with their cause.

The current Water Hashira jeopardizes his reputation once again when he publically defends the demon child against Sanemi Shinazugawa's blade, demanding that the Kamados are given an opportunity to prove their virtue. Giyu goes so far as to declare that he would commit seppuku if Nezuko ever defies her oath, literally putting his life on the line to honor his alliances.

7 Kagaya: The Enlightened

demon slayer Kagaya Ubuyashiki anime

Being the head of the Demon Slayers Corps from the tender age of four could have gone to Kagaya Ubuyashiki's head, however, he remains humble in his almost democratic leadership style. He is known to his subordinates as Oyakata–sama, which is a title that denotes respect but is considered more fatherly than authoritarian, and directly translates to “the way of the parent.”

Being unable to fight himself, Kagaya is undoubtedly a decent man to inspire such fierce loyalty from his followers. He makes a special effort to honor the memories of the fallen Demon Slayers, ensuring to visit their graves on a regular basis and guaranteeing all of his subordinates the opportunity to voice their opinions.

6 Sakonji: The Father Figure

Sakonji Urokodaki Tanjiro and Nezuko Demon Slayer

As a retired Water Hashira and former member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sakonji Urokodaki has definitely earned some peace and relaxation in his old age, yet does not hesitate to put his desires on hold in order to help Tajiro and Nezuko. Not only does he give them food, shelter, and mentorship, but Sakonji offers to care for Nezuko (a potentially dangerous demon) while Tanjiro is fulfilling his Demon Slayer duties.

Sakonji makes a particular effort to honor the dead, as he is seen burying the deceased victims when he first meets Tanjiro and even stops to pray for their departed souls. Sakonji quickly becomes a father figure to the two young orphans, dedicating all his energy to preserving their safety.

5 Jigoro: The Mentor

Jigoro Kuwajima Demon Slayer

What is more honorable than seppuku in Japanese culture? To be so ashamed of one's actions that suicide is the only reprieve; and in Jigoro Kuwajima's case, he was not even the one to commit the offense! This Thunder Hashira is so disappointed in his student, Kaigaku's alignment with the demons that he subsequently follows through with the ultimate code of honor with a samurai's death.

Before his untimely demise, Jigoro was an acclaimed sensei and took pity on young Zenitsu. The Thunder Hashira took it upon himself to settle all of his new pupil's debts by accepting the inexperienced boy as a potential Demon Slayer Corps initiate, regardless of Zenitsu's limited capabilities.

4 Tamayo: The Demon Doctor

Demon Slayer - Tamayo Using Her Demon Blood Art

Tamayo does not let her extensive medical knowledge go to waste as a demon, and puts her skills to good use by healing sick and injured humans. Much like Nezuko, Tamayo refuses to give in to her demonic instincts and wishes to never harm a human soul, and relies purely on blood donations to survive.

Tamayo puts her life at risk to help the children find a cure as their presence at her hideout attracts aggressive and undesirable attention, which could potentially expose her secret demonic identity. The Demon Doctor spends her last moments risking her life to try and defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, The Demon King, sacrificing everything in an attempt to end his tyranny.

3 Kyojuro: The Inferno

Demon Slayer Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku

As one of the most diligent members of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro Rengoku is obsessed with rules and is a passionate family man. This Flame Hashida sets his moral compass to align with that of his mother, Ruka, who emphasized the importance of safeguarding the weak and using his superior strength for the greater good.

Kyojuro becomes another hero to sacrifice his life, as he uses his wounded body to anchor Akaza to the spot so as to expose him to the approaching sunlight, instead of choosing to flee the scene and save himself. Although Akaza managed to wriggle away with his life still intact, Kyojuro's sacrifice allowed Tanjiro and Inosuke to see another day.

2 Tanjiro: The Devoted

Tanjiro from Demon Slayer

Before his life was overrun with supernatural entities, the young Tanjiro Kamado spent his days working hard as a coal burner to support his family, and assist anyone in the community who sought his help. When his family is brutally murdered by Muzan Kibutsuji and Nezuko becomes a demon, Tanjiro's faith in his sister never wavers, and he sacrifices everything to try and find a cure.

Tanjiro finds it exceedingly difficult to lie and his extreme empathy causes internal conflict within the Slayer with almost every demon's death. Earnestly trying to see the best in everyone, Tanjiro is trusting and highly respectful and finds a deep passion for upholding justice whilst serving in the Demon Slayers Corps.

1 Nezuko: The Selfless

Nezuko Kamado (Demon Slayer)

As far as anyone can tell, Nezuko Kamado has not killed a single human and has essentially spent her entire demonic life in painful starvation in her unwavering refusal to cause any harm to humanity. Nezuko shows no signs of having caused her family's deaths or even eaten from their corpses after her initial transition (when a demon is overwhelmed by its most feral mindset). Even Tomayo, with all her years of self-restraint, has red in her ledger, but Nezuko is free from any guilt of innocent bloodshed, despite Sanemi Shinazugawa's cruel taunts with fresh Marechi ichor.

Nezuko shows a fierce loyalty towards anyone she considers to be family, regularly putting herself in harm's way in order to protect her loved ones. Her traits as an elder sister and caregiver remain with her through the supernatural transition, making Nezuko the most honorable demon and overall character in the Demon Slayer franchise.
