Zenitsu Agatsuma is one of the supporting characters in the Demon Slayer series and the traveling companion of Tanjiro, Nezuko and Inosuke. Although seen to be a cowardly and anxious person, he possesses a split personality that when unconscious makes him one of the most powerful thunder breathing style demon slayer corps member who has taken on and defeated many demons.
Zenitsu is known for his unique personality and comes off as a weak-willed individual. However, he trained under the former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima, a powerful demon corps member who took Zenitsu under his wing because he saw potential in him. But how powerful is Zenitsu?
Personality And Traits
Zenitsu's appearance is that of a young boy with a yellow mop of hair that falls in front of his face, his hair was previously black but turned yellow when he was one day stuck by lightning while he was training. In the series, Zenitsu is portrayed as weak and cowardly person who runs away from the responsibilities of being a Demon Slayer. He easily becomes scared when facing a demon and is always in a constant state of fear. He is also very expressive of his emotions causing him to cry out loud and annoy those around him. He is also seen to be someone who does not want to take on the challenges that is put in front of him and prefers keeping to himself and avoiding life-threatening situations. However, despite his weaknesses Zenitsu does try his best to be there for his comrades and pushes himself to drown his low self-esteem and cowardice. He constantly regrets his behavior when acting erratically and has to remind himself to get over his negative thoughts.
Zenitsu also has a strong tendency to hit on girls he finds cute and is very expressive about his emotions in these moments too. He has a strong affection towards Nezuko and is seen to be protecting her with every chance he gets. His soft corner and respect for women is seen in the series as he puts his fears aside to protect them.
Abilities And Techniques
In the beginning of the series, Zenitsu is seen as a weak person who doesn't seem capable of much until he is asleep. In his sleeping state he awakens an extraordinary power that makes him an extremely powerful and skilled swordsman. This is seen when he decapitates the tongue demon easily and defeats the son of the spider family on his own. In the Mugen Train arc, Zenitsu was able to protect Nezuko and protect the train from Enmu, a lower rank one demon. In another instance he was able to go head-to-head with Daki, an upper rank six demon. Together with the help of Inosuke, Zenitsu was able to use his special move "Godlike speed" to decapitate Daki. But Zenitsu is not just powerful in his unconscious state. His real power shows when he is aware and awake, he was able to outmatch the new upper rank six demon, Kaigaku. At this point Zenitsu has manifested his speed and power, and he was also able to keep up with the Demon King, Muzan, even when weakened. It's possible to say that his power easily matched the strength of a Hashira.
Apart from his thunder breathing style, Zenitsu also possesses heightened hearing, which allows him to listen carefully when danger is lurking, this ability is useful when he is in his unconscious state as it gives him an idea of his surroundings and a position of his opponents. Thanks to his years of intense training, Zenitsu's immense strength and speed gives him a competitive edge over his opponents as he was able to jump high and move at flash like speeds. His speed mixed with his reflexes gives him the ability to bounce off his surroundings and land fast attacks on his enemies. His immense stamina and will, makes him a powerful opponent as he is able to go long periods of time in battle without giving up. Just like his comrade Tanjiro, Zenitsu also refuses to give up in the heat of a battle and was able to battle with extremely stronger demons such as Kaigaku and Muzan.
Zenitsu is also a master swordsman with insane speeds when using his Thunderclap and Flash techniques. This technique allows the user to first unsheathe their katana, dash and enter lightning speeds, deploys the attack usually decapitating the opponent and then sheathing their katana back, a classic samurai move. Although he was a slow learner who only managed to master the first of the six thunder breathing styles, he mastered the use of this and created variations of his own form of thunder breathing style that he used to take down his powerful opponent such as Kaigaku. All of his special moves is based on the thunderclap and flash technique which operates as extensions of the thunder breathing first form technique. It is also speculated that Zenitsu is one of the most powerful demon slayers in the series.
