Demon Slayer is one of mainstream anime’s most captivating franchises. Since its debut in 2019, the anime has gained a massive worldwide fanbase. When the property’s first video game, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, was released in 2021, fans jumped at the chance to relive some of the anime’s most memorable moments. Nearly three years later, the anime continues to thrive. However, the only new video game release that fans have been able to experience is the Mario Party-like Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep The Board. With three seasons of the anime still waiting to be adapted, and no major gaming titles since 2021, Demon Slayer needs Hinokami Chronicles 2 now more than ever.

The Demon Slayer anime will wrap up its fourth season later this month, bringing the Hashira Training Arc to an end. When it does, fans will be left with few outlets to express their fandom, and pass the time until the next season airs. The Demon Slayer manga concluded in 2020, and Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles remains the only video game to place fans in the heart of the action. With various seasons having aired since the game was released, fans are ready for another video game adaptation. While Sweep the Board may keep them occupied for a short time, many fans are hoping for an adaptation of the anime’s recent seasons, and Hinokami Chronicles 2 could be the answer.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles Ends Before The Mugen Train Arc

When it was released in October 2021, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles offered fans the full anime experience. The franchise’s first theatrical film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, had been released the Spring before, and the anime’s second season was soon to debut. The game functioned as an immersive refresher for fans of season 1 and featured additional non-canon side missions that emboldened the experience. However, The Hinokami Chronicles’ release so close to December 2021’s Mugen Train arc saw it quickly overshadowed.

While The Hinokami Chronicles’s narrative stopped at Mugen Train, the title received additional fighters via a Character Pass DLC. DLC fighters included characters and reskins versions of Tanjiro and Nezuko from the Entertainment District arc. Characters such as Tengen Uzui, Daki, and Gyutaro were playable in Versus Mode, but no new chapters of The Hinokami Chronicles’ Adventure Mode were added alongside them. This oversight and the massive amount of content that has aired since the title’s release makes The Hinokami Chronicles 2 a must-have for fans.

Demon Slayer's The Hinokami Chronicles 2 Could Deliver a Massive Experience

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles covered the anime’s first season, which consisted of 11 episodes and one feature film. While these 11 episodes provided the title with a solid amount of material to adapt, its sequel could deliver a much bolder and expansive experience. With the Demon Slayer’s fourth season airing its final episode later this month, the series now has 37 episodes waiting for a video game adaptation. If The Hinokami Chronicles 2 were to catch gamers up with the anime once again, its Adventure Mode would need to be at least three times longer than the original’s.

It remains to be seen when a second Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba game adaptation will see release, but a recent leak suggests that a Hinokami Chronicles sequel may be in development. Fans have been clamoring for another video game adaptation of the Demon Slayer franchise, with the original Hinokami Chronicles setting high expectations for what gaming titles would look like, as the anime progressed through future arcs. With no true follow-up or successor having been released alongside Demon Slayer's past three seasons, The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is needed now more than ever. Until the title is officially announced, fans remain hopeful that it can live up to, and possibly exceed, the original's high standards.
