Quite a lot of the characters in Demon Slayer have had awful deaths, more often than not against some demon, and these are some of the characters in Demon Slayer that had it the worst.
6 Jigoro Kuwamanji
- The Former Thunder Hashira
- Killed By: Himself

Jigoro Kuwajima is a former Hashira who retired. He used to be the Thunder Hashira. During his older years, he trained two students, Zenitsu Agatsuma, who would later accompany Tanjiro on his quest, and Kaigaku. What pushed this kind, old man to suicide was one of his own students betraying him. Indeed, Kaigaku betrayed the Demon Slayers and defected to the ranks of the Demons.
This was unbearable for the old man and he committed Seppuku, which entails suicide by disembowelment. He did not die immediately by this, and was left to bleed out in agony for hours, as no one beheaded him while he was bleeding out to save him from this misery.
5 Genya Shinazugawa

Genya is the brother of the Wind Hashira, Sanemi. This character played a pivotal role in the Hashira’s fight against the Upper Rank 1 Demon, Kokushibo, a Demon only bested by Muzan, the Demon King. This Demon was so powerful that even with three Hashiras at his tail, their victory was not looking possible.
At first, Genya was sliced in half by Kokushibo, however, he isn’t a normal human. He can eat demons and gain some temporary abilities. Thanks to that, he was able to recover by eating some of Kokushibo’s hair. And, after eating a part of Kokushibo’s sword, he was able to help the demons and turn the odds, allowing the others to behead Kokushibo. In the end, however, he succumbed to his injuries, but he died like a Demon, with his body vanishing away in front of his brother.
4 Obanai Iguro

The Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, was one of the Hashiras who stood against the Demon King Muzan and held him until the sun rose. In this fight, it can be said that Obanai was one of the most active against the Demon King, landing some heavy hits on him.

He even lost his eyesight when Muzan tore his eyes out but fought nevertheless. With Muzan’s death after the sunrise, he died with Mitsuri in her arms.
3 Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri Kanroji is the Love Hashira, and she met her gruesome end in her long fight against Muzan with the other Demon Slayers. Along with Obanai, Gyomei, Giyuu, and Sanemi, Mitsuri helped stall Muzan until the sun rose but in the process, sustained very heavy injuries.
During the battle, she lost one of her arms against Muzan but still came back and tore off his arms. After the battle was over, however, her injuries were too heavy to sustain and she succumbed to her wounds in Obanai’s arms.
2 Muichiro Tokito

One of the worst deaths in Demon Slayer is, without a doubt, that of Muichiro. Muichiro was only 14 when he met his gruesome end against his own ancestor, Kokushibo. Leading up to his death, he fought with everything he had to help defeat this Upper Rank One Demon, however, Kokushibo was merciless with him.
At the end of his life, he was reduced to a torso as Kokushibo chopped off his arms and legs. Later, he got cut in half again. His death is made worse when fans remember he was only a child, unlike the other Hashira.
1 Shinobu Kocho
- The Insect Hashira

While it’s hard to say which character had the worst death, a good contender is Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira. She went into her fight with Doma knowing that she would have to die to take him down, but did it anyway. Her plan, from the very start, was to get eaten by Doma, which is an awful way to go out. Before dying, she even had her spine broken by him, which is one of the most painful ways to die.
However, on the bright side, her death did not go to waste, and thanks to her sacrifice, Kanao and Inosuke were able to finish off Doma, which avenged her and her older sister Kanae’s death.
