In Demon Slayer, Nichirin swords are weapons used by the Demon Slayer Corps. They are made out of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore, materials that can be found in the Sunlight Mountain on Mount Yoko. These weapons constantly absorb sunlight, which makes using them one of the few ways to permanently kill a Demon, however, they only really work in killing them when used to decapitate their heads and aren't nearly as effective on other body parts.
Due to how important the possession of one of the swords is to be able to kill Demons, they are forged for Demon Slayers after they pass the final selection. Interestingly, when first drawn by their users, they take on a unique color.
8 Shinobu Kocho’s Sword
Shinobu Kocho is a beloved character from Demon Slayer who is a member of the Hashira. She is a very capable fighter and the younger sister of the deceased Flower Hashira.
Shinobu is physically weaker than the rest and as a result of that, she makes use of a unique sword that cannot decapitate demons. It is a thin sword, a stinger with a tip shaped like a needle. She relies on poisoning her enemies instead of decapitating them. The color of the blade is lavender-blue as she uses the insect breathing style.
7 Muichiro Tokito’s Sword
Muichiro Tokito is a prodigy in the Demon Slayer world and the youngest ever Hashira, joining at only 14 years of age. He is also a descendant of one of the most powerful Demons, Kokushibo. He wields a regular-looking katana, however, it is white in color due to him using the Mist Breathing style. In addition to that, thanks to his Demon Slayer mark, he is able to turn it bright red.
Being one of the most skilled swordsmen in the series, he uses his sword incredibly well and even impressed Upper Rank One Kokushibo with his skills.
6 Tengen Uzui’s Cleavers
Tengen Uzui is a character who was central to the second season of Demon Slayer as a member of the Hashira. His battle weapon isn’t the regular sword, but instead, dual cleavers connected by a chain that resemble nunchucks. Despite their heavy weight and large size, Tengen is strong enough to control them well and hit hard with them.
His dual cleavers are amber in color due to him being a Sound Breathing user. It is said that before fighting the Upper Rank 6, no demon survived a blow from his weapon.
5 Mitsuri Kanroji’s Sword
A member of the Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji possesses a peculiar sword that is whip-like, a very flexible and long katana, to be specific. The shape of her sword makes it so that she can unleash very fast attacks seen when she was able to keep up with Upper Rank 4 Zohakuten.
Her Nichirin Sword is pink in color, due to her being a Love Breathing user. Her sword’s flexibility mirrors her own abilities very well as she is seen as being extremely flexible in fights. Her sword is so unique that only she can make use of it.
4 Gyomei Himejima’s Flail And Axe
Gyomei Himejima, one of the Hashiras, uses a Flail and Axe. While it is not really a sword, it is made of the same material as the other’s swords and is, perhaps, one of the most powerful out there. This weapon is so resistant that even Upper Rank One of the 12 Kizuki, Kokushibo, couldn’t destroy it.
His sword is gray in color, symbolizing his Stone Breathing style. This unusual weapon is perfect for Gyomei due to him being blind and using the echoes created by it to grasp the environment around him.
3 Kokushibo’s Sword
Kokushibo is a very powerful antagonist in the Demon Slayer series as he holds the Upper Rank One among the 12 Kizuki.
His sword is one of the most unique looking in the series, being able to change to his whims and take the appearance of a tree-like sword with sword branches coming out of its sides. While the sword was purple due to him being a Moon Breathing user, it turned red after he modified it with his blood. He had this sword before being turned into a Demon.
2 Tanjiro Kamado’s Sword
Tanjiro is the main character of Demon Slayer and holds quite an interesting sword. While he started as a character who used Water Breathing, his sword did not turn blue the first time he drew it, but instead black, which is associated with Sun Breathing.
Black Swords are not as understood in the Demon Slayer world, but are associated with a shorter life span and bad luck.
1 Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s Sword
The strongest Demon Slayer to have ever lived, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, similar to Tanjiro, had one of the rarest sword colors out there.
His Nichirin sword is of an obsidian black color, which is a bad sign in the Demon Slayer world that would signify a short life, however, he lived to be old. Additionally, his sword becomes bright red in battle. This is due to him being a Sun Breathing user. With his sword, Yoriichi was able to almost negate Muzan’s regenerative powers and instilled fear in him.
