The Delta Force series is making a surprise comeback with Delta Force: Hawk Ops. The ninth installment in the long-dormant FPS franchise is currently in the works at TiMi Studio Group, best known as the developer of Call of Duty Mobile.
Delta Force started as a PC-only series in 1998 before expanding to consoles four years later. Its eventual PlayStation debut didn't go unnoticed, as Delta Force: Urban Warfare is still touted as one of the best FPS games on the PS1. California-based developer NovaLogic was putting out new Delta Force games on an annual basis until the 2005 Delta Force: Xtreme. Its sequel, Xtreme 2, released to mostly negative reviews in 2009, prompting the company pivot to other projects. After canceling three such undertakings and facing financial difficulties, the studio was eventually sold to THQ Nordic in 2016. The Austrian publisher showed no intention of reviving the Delta Force series ever since.
Nevertheless, a new installment in the franchise called Delta Force: Hawk Ops is currently in the works at TiMi Studio Group, who presumably licensed the long-dormant FPS brand from THQ Nordic. The Chinese mobile gaming giant unveiled its latest title with an August 18 teaser trailer depicting hectic action across a variety of locations. The 30-second video is meant to serve as a precursor to the game's full-fledged announcement, which is scheduled to happen at the 2023 Gamescom on Tuesday, August 22.
In the meantime, TiMi Studio Group confirmed that Delta Force: Hawk Ops will be a multi-platform title for both PC and consoles, as well as mobile devices. The game is meant to debut as a free-to-play experience, as is the case with most other contemporary titles from the Call of Duty Mobile developer. And though that business model will inherently make Delta Force: Hawk Ops focused on multiplayer, the upcoming FPS will also feature a campaign mode inspired by the 2001 Hollywood blockbuster Black Hawk Down.
Hawk Ops will hence be the second-ever Delta Force game to take inspiration from Ridley Scott's iconic war film, arriving more than two decades after Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. Despite that similarity, there is currently no indication that the upcoming FPS will be a remake of NovaLogic's 2003 game.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops is not the only licensed property that TiMi Studio Group currently has in the works. The Chinese developer is presently also developing Metal Slug Code: J and an untitled Monster Hunter game that's not to be confused with Niantic's Monster Hunter Now spin-off.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops is in development for Android, iOS, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
