Bethesda brought a game to the PS5 event that many may have forgotten was announced this past year. Deathloop is an action shooter made by Arkane Studios, the developers of Dishonored. However, the Deathloop shown during today's PS5 presentation is much more impressive than what was shown before.

Deathloop was shown at the PS5 event with a stunning, action-packed trailer. Where Dishonored was all about stealth and preparation for combat, Deathloop looks like it's a non-stop race to assassination. This first-person shooter tasks players with solving puzzles and assassinating targets in a fast loop, where death equals a reset and success means a new time loop to dissect.

The story of Deathloop places players on an island, stuck in a nefarious deathloop. Each time the player dies, they reset to the start of the loop. The player is the target of an island-wide manhunt by members of the AEON Program. Killing the 8 members of the AEON Program is the only way to escape the nightmarish loop. The why behind the Deathloop, the why behind the assassins, as well as the task placed before the player, will have to be discovered through playing.

There's definitely more to the equation than just an assassination story where death resets the time loop, however. Deathloop also features an innovative multiplayer element. During any given loop, another player can drop into a game as opposing assassin Julianna. Julianna's job is to assassinate the protagonist, Colt, before they can accomplish their mission. This multiplayer feature, Bethesda makes clear, is entirely optional. Julianna will be run by an AI otherwise.

Finally, Bethesda confirms that Deathloop will launch as a console exclusive on PlayStation 5. That means that for an unclear amount of time Deathloop won't be available on Xbox Series X, or PS4 and Xbox One for that matter, either. It will eventually come to Xbox Series X, though. Deathloop will also be launching on PC alongside the PS5. There's no word on other platforms, yet.
