Of all the weapons in Deathloop, none are quite like the HALPS prototype. Its only form of ammunition is batteries, and it requires a short charging period before unleashing its devastating laser on anything unfortunate enough to stand in Colt's way. Players that picked up the game after the Goldenloop update may run into it while completing the game's tutorials, but how can the laser weapon be accessed? This guide will explain how it's obtained, and help players unlock the Out Like a Light trophy in the easiest way possible.

One of the weapon's best features is its ability to play off its environment. Deathloop's island of Blackreef has several areas to explore, and most feature turrets and security cameras in some capacity. The HALPS prototype takes advantage of them wonderfully. When its laser is focused on them, the beam is extended and anything nearby is vaporized. Players should be careful to hack the machines before attempting this, however, as it's all too easy to die to the laser accidentally.

How To Get the HALPS Prototype

Deathloop HALPS Prototype Location

The HALPS prototype is one of Wenjie Evans' brilliant creations, and it can be found in the Complex. The best time to attempt the heist is during the morning, as there aren't as many Eternalists present, and it means the rest of the day can be spent using it to terrorize the island. As seen in the screenshot above, players will need to navigate the area until they're near the large satellite dish with a green building below it. The HALPS prototype is found in a room at the back. It's joined by two security cameras, and it's important to note that players should not hack them, or they'll need to reset the day and come back.

To get the HALPS prototype out of its box, pull the two levers below it and direct the laser towards the glass holding the weapon. When done correctly, the player will likely die, but upon returning to the room the case will be gone and the HALPS can be taken. Players that prefer outright combat can get the weapon without as much fuss. After making enough story progress to make Wenjie visit Aleksis' party, killing her there will see her drop the weapon, where it can be collected and used like any other.

Infusing the weapon will be costly. Players can expect to spend 9,000 Residuum to add it to their arsenal permanently, but it's worth the cost. Beyond being a great tool for murder, players can use the HALPS prototype to unlock the Out Like a Light trophy, which rewards them for killing a Visionary with it.

How To Unlock the Out Like a Light Trophy

After getting to grips with the powerful laser weapon, put it to good use by aiming for the Out Like a Light trophy. This tasks players with killing any one of the game's eight Visionaries with the HALPS prototype. This is arguably easiest in Updaam at Noon. Harriet at Karl's Bay can also be a target, but she's only available in the morning; players that don't want to infuse the weapon if they don't need to when attacking Charlie Montague.

The strategy is fairly simple. Run to the Condition Detachment LARPing area, use the Shift slab with Reach and Airborne upgrades to reach the upper levels via the right side unseen, and sneak past his defenses on the roof. Players that get spotted will need to act fast, as Charlie can get away quickly, but a short exposure to the laser will quickly vaporize him and unlock the trophy soon after.

Players that steal the HALPS prototype from Wenjie at the party can also get the trophy, assuming they left Aleksis alive and can identify him before the weapon runs out of power. No matter which Visionary falls to the laser, the trophy will unlock.

Deathloop is available now on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
