One of the more exciting additions to Deathloop in the years since its release was the Goldenloop update. Free for all players, it introduced plenty of new content ranging from upgrades for Juliana's Masquerade slab to a whole new enemy type. And of course, it also brought new trophies and achievements. One of the more enjoyable additions to the 100% completion checklist was the Garbage Day trophy, tasking players with killing a dangerous boss-like enemy and stealing his Fugue slab.

The Fugue slab disorients enemies by making them unable to see and hear. It's perfect for stealth when combined with the Nexus slab, which applies effects from one enemy to the surrounding others. Players will want to visit the Garbage Collector for this powerful ability whether they're interested in the Garbage Day trophy or not.

How To Unlock the Garbage Day Trophy

The Garbage Day trophy is unlocked by killing the Garbage Collector and collecting his Fugue Slab. The boss-like character, whose real name is Gabe Chadjavich, can be found in Karl's Bay in the Afternoon. He resides in a dangerous lair that players should only enter when they're well-stocked with at least purple trinkets. After leaving the tunnels, players should stick to the right side of the area near the cliffs as if they were going to kill Harriet. Upon reaching some black-and-white panels, look left; a doorway can be found near a large construction site. If this is the player's first time in the area, the door will be locked. Reading the note on it and returning the following afternoon will open it.

The door takes players into Gabe's lair, where he begins inside a smaller room. A door on the right side will let players in, but be wary. Opening it without hacking a mine on the glass will alert the Collector, and begin the fight with players on the back foot.

When fought head-on, he's a challenge. Several Eternalists will join him, his armor resists most damage, and turrets will activate to make the whole experience a handful for players that haven't mastered their abilities. Grenades and the Nexus slab can make things more manageable, but stealth is recommended. Hacking the distractions in his room, throwing bottles, and using the Aether slab will help players get close enough for a quick machete kill. When he's finally dead, grab the Fugue slab that he drops to unlock the trophy.

How to Skip the Garbage Collector Fight

There is an alternative to open combat, however, as there often is in Arkane Studios' games. Players that struggle to kill Gabe will have noticed that he's only in his base in the afternoon. It's closed in the morning and evening, so he must be somewhere else during the day. By visiting Fristad Rock at Noon, players can fight their way to the area's underground bar where Gabe is present. He's much easier to kill here, swapping the armor and helmet for a pair of underpants. He can still be identified by his singing about 'days feeling like weeks' — assuming players don't drown it out with gunfire.

Killing the garbage collector earlier in the day won't give players the Fugue slab straight away, however. They'll still need to return to Karl's Bay in the Afternoon and open the safe, found near the back of the locked room's lower floor near a bed, to access it and unlock the Garbage Day trophy.

Deathloop is available now on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
