Kenneth Branagh's Hercule Poirot has returned to solve another mysterious murder in the brand new trailer for Death on the Nile. Based on the 1937 Agatha Christie novel of the same name, the upcoming film promises to be a daring mystery-thriller, where a crime of passion occurs on a steamer and suddenly all the passengers are treated as suspects.

The trailer for the upcoming Disney film not only brings back Branagh's Poirot, but introduces viewers to the star-studded cast of the film. The video confirms that this case will be more difficult for Poirot to crack because the murder is driven by emotion, obsessive love, and jealousy. Fans of Christie's murder mystery novels may already know the answer, but it remains to be seen whether the live-action adaptation will follow the same trail.

The official synopsis of Death on the Nile was previously revealed, which placed Poirot on a “glamorous river steamer” during his vacation in Egypt. Unfortunately, crime seems to follow him when a couple’s honeymoon is cut short after the wife is murdered. At this point, it becomes crucial to discover the culprit, because other passengers’ lives could potentially be in danger as well.

The trailer sets the plot against some beautiful landscape, including a shot of the Great Pyramid of Giza, whereas the guests are seen wearing impeccable outfits, promising a visually stunning film. Viewers are introduced to “Mr. and Mrs. Simon Doyle,” portrayed by Armie Hammer and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. The latter seems to have invited Poirot on the trip with a specific purpose in mind. “When you have money, no one is ever really your friend,” Gadot's Linnet Doyle is heard telling him. It remains to be seen what she was afraid of.

After the murder, Poirot is seen speaking to all the guests, while figuring out if their alibis are true. Every passenger seems to have a motive, and they all soon turn on each other. It is reminiscent of the murder mystery in 2017's Murder on the Orient Express and it would be interesting to see how Poirot arrives at his final conclusion.

Death on the Nile brings together several big names from the industry. Apart from Hammer and Gadot, the film stars Black Panther's Letitia Wright, Tom Bateman, Sophie Okonedo, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders. Similar to Murder on the Orient Express, Branagh will be taking the director’s position and Michael Green is back to write the screenplay.

Death on the Nile is scheduled to premiere in theatres on February 11, 2022.
