Highlights

  • Deadpool & Wolverine rumored to have multiple cameos from X-Men universe and possibly surprises from other Marvel franchises.
  • Some confirmed cameos include returning characters from past X-Men films and several characters introduced in previous Deadpool movies.
  • It's uncertain if all rumored appearances will materialize, as previous Marvel films with many reported cameos ended up having only a few.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are always plenty of rumors for fans to speculate about. This has especially been the case with projects like WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, both of which had rumors about character additions and cameos that ultimately never panned out. The latest project to be at the center of the rumormill is Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine.

The movie, which serves as Deadpool's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is expected to include plenty of cameos. This is something Marvel has even teased with the first trailer for the movie, which showcased multiple characters from Fox's X-Men universe. However, if the rumors are anything to believe, there are still plenty more cameos on the way for Deadpool & Wolverine. Assuming the rumors are nothing more than hearsay.

All the Rumored Cameo Appearances

Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to see Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth travel through the multiverse before making his way into the MCU proper. We already know Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is a different version than the one from Logan, who ultimately meets his end. However, it's recently been reported that another character from that film is expected to return for the forthcoming film. Dafne Keen, who made her debut as X-23 in Logan, is expected to appear in the latest Deadpool film, although the actor has played coy regarding her involvement. Professor X, Storm, and Cyclops have also been rumored to return for the film, while another rumor has suggested megastar Taylor Swift will appear as Dazzler. As if that wasn't enough, it's also speculated that Wesley Snipes will make an appearance as Blade, his first appearance since 2004. Another rumor suggests Channing Tatum will finally get to portray Gambit in the film, after the failed Gambit project he was set to star in.

One of the most intriguing rumored cameos is Henry Cavil, who is said to be appearing as a variant of Wolverine. Cavil's cameo was actually rumored following reports that he had quietly joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an undisclosed role. That, of course, was never confirmed, but if it proves to be true, it could make for a fun appearance for fans. The problem is, however, while all of these rumored appearances are exciting, it's of note that these rumors could be setting fans up for disappointment. Multiverse of Madness had a slew of cameos reported, and while some did prove to be true, most of them never came to fruition. It's possible that, yes, these characters will actually appear. However, it's also possible these rumors are just fun rumors for fans to enjoy while waiting for the movie to premiere.

All the Confirmed Cameo Appearances

On the flipside of things, while there are a ton of unconfirmed cameos fans hope to see in Deadpool & Wolverine, there are also plenty of confirmed cameos. The trailer has already showcased Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), and Dopinder (Karan Soni). However, the trades have also confirmed the film will see Jennifer Garner return as Elektra, Rob Delaney, who appeared in Deadpool 2, is also confirmed to return as Peter. Returning from Fox's X-Men universe are Aaron Stanford as Pyro, Jason Flemyng as Azael, Ray Park as Toad, and Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike. With Marvel Studios keen on secrecy, it's possible there are more appearances in store, but these the only confirmed ones as of now.

While Deadpool & Wolverine is sure to be a success for Marvel Studios, given the numbers it is already doing with presale tickets, there is the possibility fans will still be disappointed. The problem with rumors is that while fun, they can distort expectations among fans. Especially if some fans take them as fact, rather than merely speculation. Look at Multiverse of Madness, for example. For a long time, it was rumored that Tom Cruise was set to appear as a variant of Iron Man, but that, of course, never actually happened. While other rumors suggested at least one Spider-Man would appear, with some suggesting it would be Tobey Maguire. While some of the rumored cameos did actually happen, Cruise and Maguire were just rumors that never became anything more than that. As fun as it is to speculate, it's important to remember, sometimes it's best just to ignore the hearsay and just allow ourselves to be surprised in the end. Rumors are fun, but they can also be frustrating, especially with new sources coming out of the wordwork with each new Marvel Studios - and genre film - release.

In the end, fans will get to see who Wade drags along for his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th. For now, fans can enjoy watching the first two installments on Disney+ and purchase their tickets, which just might land them a token for an exclusive claw machine at a theater near them.
