Essential MCU Movies & Shows To Watch Before Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine brings the iconic X-Men characters to the MCU, but what should fans watch before heading into the Multiverse?

Thanks to leaked packaging for the new wave Deadpool & Wolverine Funko POPs, we now know that several Merc With a Mouth variants will appear in the movie. The latest series of Funko Pops (via FunkoInfo) unveils three fresh Deadpool variants for Deadpool & Wolverine, including Babypool, Kidpool, and Headpool. This version of merchandise comes packaged with masked Wolverine and Babypool, and the back of the box gives us a first look at the Kidpool, Headpool, and Dogpool POPs. The images show Babypool paired with Wolverine. The Funko Pop! series also includes the previously confirmed Deadpool variant Dogpool, paired with the main Deadpool figure. While we knew that a few Merc With a Mouth variants would appear in Deadpool and Wolverine, this new packaging hints that even more alternate-universe versions of Wade Wilson are on the way.

Although Ladypool is missing in action, the last teaser confirmed Wanda Wilson will make an appearance in the film’s third installment at some point, though the casting for her role is still under wraps but it's rumored not to be Blake Lively or Taylor Swift as earlier thought. There are also whispers about Wolverine Variants appearing, but they haven’t surfaced in trailers or promotional material yet. This new merchandise highlights the vast potential of Marvel Studios' expansive Multiverse, which allows for endless character variations, as showcased in Loki. Fans got a glimpse of this with Alligator Loki, Old Man Loki, and other Lokis, but an alligator Variant is just the beginning of the wild and diverse twists fans can expect. Deadpool & Wolverine aims to fully explore this Multiverse concept, introducing not only a new Variant of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine but also several absurd and comic-accurate Deadpool Variants, as seen in recent marketing and promo materials.

One of the lesser-known Deadpool variants, Headpool, first appeared in Marvel Zombies #3 back in 2006. Originating from Earth-2149, this version comes from a universe where a zombie plague has ravaged the Marvel Universe. Though Headpool may make a brief appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, it's likely he'll also appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series. In contrast, Kidpool hails from Earth-10330 and entered the Marvel Comics scene in 2010 with Prelude to Deadpool Corps #2. In this reality, Wade Wilson was a student at the Xavier Orphanage for Troubled Boys, an alternate take on Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. While no actor has been announced for Kidpool in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are eager to see Walker Scobell, who played young Reynolds in The Adam Project, take on the role in the MCU. For Babypool, though no such character exists in the comics, it could plausibly be a younger Kidpool. With three characters already confirmed and intense speculation around Lady Deadpool's debut, it's thrilling to anticipate how Deadpool & Wolverine will explore different versions of Wade.

Luckily, fans won't have to wait long, as Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26.
