With Deadpool 3 bringing both Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU, it opens the door for plenty of familiar faces to appear.

In a recent episode of The Starting Line Podcast, host Rich Leigh had the exclusive opportunity to interview acclaimed actor Brian Cox. During their long conversation, which covered a wide range of topics, the subject of Cox's potential involvement in the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie arose, particularly regarding the role of William Stryker. Cox swiftly dismissed any rumors, stating, "I haven’t heard about it," thus providing a definitive response to the speculation regarding his involvement in the film.

Cox revealed that following his portrayal of Stryker in X2 (2003), the role was passed on to his "old friend" Danny Huston, who portrayed the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Despite wondering why he was not approached to reprise the role, Cox never pursued the matter further. He eventually spoke with David Benioff, the original scriptwriter for X-Men Origins, who simply stated that he did not have an answer. Cox has not been involved in any other Marvel projects since. He explained that he typically moves on from roles after filming, stating, "If they want to do it with another [actor], that's their business." Cox added that even if he were asked to return as Stryker, his busy schedule would prevent him from accepting the role.

Numerous fans have eagerly anticipated Stryker's potential return, praising Cox's portrayal of the villain as irreplaceable. The idea of Stryker's reappearance has sparked excitement among many, although some have voiced skepticism about how his character could be integrated into the storyline. Despite Cox's confirmation that he will not be reprising his role in Deadpool & Wolverine, the possibility of Stryker's return remains shrouded in mystery, leaving fans to speculate about who might step into the role. Stryker's pivotal role in shaping Wolverine's identity makes his presence in the movie seem plausible, particularly given the movie's exploration of Wolverine's past. Furthermore, his ties to Deadpool's backstory add another layer of complexity, further fueling speculation about his potential appearance.

Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
