While the first look at Wolverine's new suit in Deadpool 3 excited fans, many were disappointed that Hugh Jackman's arms were covered. According to a fan theory, there may be a good reason for it.While he’ll appear in 2024’s Deadpool 3, Hugh Jackman picked up the mantle of the Wolverine in 2000 and has since become the face associated with one of Marvel's most popular characters. When X-Men first appeared on the big screen, the titular mutant team wore matching, dark leather suits. The only throwback fans got for the iconic costumes seen in the comics and cartoons was when Logan asked about the team’s suits. “Well, what would you prefer?” team leader Cyclops asked, “Yellow spandex?”RELATED: Deadpool 3 Behind-the-Scenes Photos Reveal Deadpool vs Wolverine FightIt turns out the fans did want the yellow spandex. Deadpool 3 photos featuring Wolverine's new yellow and blue suit hyped fans for the new film, with many saying they were thrilled to see a comic-based costume after more than two decades. However, fans noticed that, despite Wolverine usually being bare-armed, Jackman's arms were covered. According to Twitter user BorkEternal, though, there’s a good reason for the costume inaccuracy – Jackman is susceptible to skin cancer.

Jackman has been forthcoming with fans about his skin cancer treatments. Starting in 2013, the Australian actor has been treated several times for basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer. His latest cancer scare ended with the all-clear from his doctor in April 2023. Jackman has been vocal about the necessity for skin protection since, urging fans to take care of their skin during summer months.

While it hasn’t been confirmed, many Twitter users made the connection between Wolverine's sleeves and Jackman's susceptibility to skin cancer. The leaked photos of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Jackman in his new suit are outside, with both actors bathed in bright sunlight. It makes sense to many fans on Twitter that the costume is designed with Jackman's health in mind.

When fans consider that Jackman wants to protect himself from further exposure to skin cancer scares, they’re happy to see a slightly comic-inaccurate costume. And, as one Twitter user points out, it doesn’t mean the suit will stay intact throughout the movie. There’s always the chance that damage to Wolverine's suit will give fans the bare arms they want to see without risking Jackman's health.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
