After speculation over who they will play, Emma Corrin's Deadpool 3 villain has reportedly been revealed.

The production of the Deadpool 3 has been swirling with rumors since the onset. Fans wait for the new film with anticipation now that the Merc with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) is finally entering the MCU. The biggest news to date is the re-entry of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine to the Marvel stage. When fans last saw him, Wolverine had a brutal death in James Mangold's gritty film, Logan. Set pictures have revealed that he won't appear as Old Man Logan, but quite possibly a variant, judging on his comic-accurate Wolverine costume.

Though the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike has put production on hold for now, that hasn’t stopped the news from flowing, including the identity of the new villain set to trade blows with Wade Wilson. Deadpool 3 reported Corrin's casting some time ago, but fans may now know who they are playing. According to CanWeGotSomeToast's Twitter, Corrin stars as a character who has yet to make it in live action. The insider revealed that the actor will play Cassandra Nova, a formidable character who has made waves in the comics.

Cassandra is most notable for being an adversary of Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X. In the comics, she is known as a “Mummudrai.” This is an entity that is a person’s opposite in every way. Where Charlies is light, Cassandra is dark. And because of Xavier's immense power, she developed similar strength and created a body for herself in the form of his twin in utero. Xavier already possessed such powerful psychic abilities that he recognized her evil nature and tried to kill her in the womb. The fight resulted in a miscarriage, but that did not end Cassandra. In the following years, she survived and started rebuilding a body so she could take revenge on her twin.

This plot point is the weirder side of Marvel that X-Men has not explored before. In previous films, the X-Men have avoided plot points that don't reflect standard superhero fare. Even when Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) possessed the Phoenix Force in the Dark Phoenix Saga, it was not some cosmic entity the Shi'ar Empire had tried to control for some time. Deadpool is Deadpool, meaning the film can delve deeper into the strange history of the X-Men. There is no point in bringing in Cassandra if they don't take advantage of her origin. And with Marvel Studios' recent projects, such as Loki and WandaVision, maybe Marvel is also ready for strong characters who have not been in the movies.

Deadpool 3 is slated for release on May 3, 2024.
