Deadpool 3 is finally back in production after the conclusion of the actors' strike, and Disney's schedule shuffle means that it’s joined a pretty exclusive group within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool 3 marks the debut of Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth in the franchise. The film would face some difficulties, leading to a pushed-back release date that was only compounded by more bad news for the Deadpool 3 production if the actor’s strike called by SAG-AFTRA kept going on, which seemingly shot down any chance of the studio’s more optimistic resumption timelines.

One Mystery Marvel Movie On Sony's Schedule Revealed By The Studio

Sony announced the confirmed release schedule for an intriguing Marvel movie after weathering the challenges of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Now it seems that the threequel film—which is still technically untitled (although director Shawn Levy has thrown out potential Deadpool 3 titles)—has acquired a rare distinction in the aftermath of the strikes, which concluded days ago. A new report from Deadline confirms that the film is resuming production immediately. It also reveals that it’s gotten a new release date of July 26, 2024, due to the shuffle of Disney's release schedule for Marvel projects. This marks the project stealing that release date from Captain America: Brave New World, which has taken over the February 14th, 2025, release date initially meant for Blade, now consigned to November 7th of the same year.

With the final movement of Thunderbolts from its initial December 2024 release date to July 25th, 2025, Deadpool 3 finds itself alone on the franchise’s release calendar for 2024, making it one of only four MCU projects to have a release year all to themselves. The three existing entries on that list were 2010’s Iron Man 2, 2012’s The Avengers, and the 2026-set Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the last of which got its release date after it was delayed alongside Avengers: Secret Wars. This schedule reflects confidence in the film and highlights the cast and crew's dedication, as there were preliminary reports that Brave New World was further along earlier in the year.

The upcoming threequel is still hotly anticipated, with headliners Reynolds and Hugh Jackman joined by a talented supporting cast that also includes The Crown star Emma Corrin, a Deadpool 3 cast member who’s admittedly not a Marvel person despite being added in what is likely a prominent villainous role in the film, and even a much-discussed role for superstar Taylor Swift. Having it released in isolation means that there will be no internal competition from other Marvel Studios movies, a fact that’s complemented handsomely by competitor DC Studios also having an empty slate for the year in question as the new DCU takes shape under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

An easy win for the studio would be a great recovery boost, as The Marvels debuted with a franchise-low Rotten Tomatoes score and looks set to underperform at the box office to close out the year on a sour note. The studio and fans will have to wait and see if Reynolds and his smart-talking Deadpool can bring the same magic in an MCU-style film and save the day.

Deadpool 3 is currently set for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
