A Deadpool 3 plot synopsis was officially unveiled, and it hints at some significant changes to the MCU timeline caused by Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Deadpool star Reynolds recently announced that they were done filming the third installment of his superhero movie after overcoming several setbacks, including the SAG-AFTRA strike. Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine in the film years after he announced that he would hang up his claws after Logan, which was supposed to be the conclusion of his character's arc. However, Jackman is set to return as James "Jimmy" Howlett, aka Logan, again, which will change MCU's history, according to an announcement from the studio.

X-Men Villain Fanart Shows Live-Action Casting That Never Made It To Screen

An X-Men villain makes their long-awaited live-action in fan art that imagines the character's scrapped appearance in one Marvel movie.

Marvel Studios Japan recently shared an official Deadpool 3 plot synopsis ahead of the movie's rumored Super Bowl trailer. Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel movie in 2024, but the recently released synopsis confirms that the upcoming movie will have a major impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios Japan noted that the "[f***ing] irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine?" It remains unknown how it would change the MCU, leaving most of the announcement to fans' speculations.

The Deadpool 3 plot synopsis was deemed a huge spoiler, and it wasn't clear what it meant. However, it could point to the anticipated reunion of the Avengers and the mutant superheroes, especially since an X-Men MCU reboot is already in development. X-Men and Avengers exist in the same Marvel Comics universe, but the former hasn't been seen in the MCU because they used to exist in different film franchises. However, both are now under the same ownership after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Thus, Wolverine's appearance in Deadpool 3 could be the gateway for the mutant superheroes to join the MCU and change its history. Deadpool's connection to X-Men could be the crossover fans waited for that will lead to Phase 6 of MCU's Multiverse Saga.

Another theory suggests that Wolverine joining the MCU will pave the way for the original Avengers' return. MCU's popularity has since declined after Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evan's Captain America left the franchise after Endgame. For instance, its most recent movie, The Marvels, made history as the lowest-grossing film in the MCU. Its disappointing performance continued with a record-low for weeks, leading The Walt Disney Company to stop reporting its box office grosses.

However, Wolverine's appearance in Deadpool 3 could pave the way for Marvel's popular characters like Iron Man or Captain America to return to the MCU. Wolverine was already dead in its previous story arc, much like RDJ's Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, but they were able to incorporate him in Deadpool 3. Wolverine and Iron Man are much-loved characters, probably because of how well Jackman and Downey Jr. portrayed the superheroes on the big screen. With the MCU bringing Wolverine back to life after he died in Logan, there is no doubt that they could do the same to MCU characters like Iron Man and help build hype for the MCU's upcoming phases.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024
