Fans have been speculating how Deadpool 3 will connect to the MCU, and leaked set photos may have revealed the answer: Tom Hiddleston's Loki.Fans were delighted when Ryan Reynolds' return in Deadpool 3 was confirmed, which will officially bring the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU. Deadpool's MCU debut is reportedly connected to the Multiverse, likely explaining how he leaves his 20th Century Fox universe behind. There have been three MCU adventures that deal with the Multiverse so far – Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch recently hinted he might return quicker than fans expect – but no details about Deadpool 3's MCU connection have been confirmed.Despite no confirmation, some fans have noticed a striking similarity to an MCU show in Deadpool 3 set photos. While the main focus of these photos is Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine fighting in a desert, it also shows a few set pieces that look like they belong in the Void from Loki. These include a crashed blimp and a ship that looks similar to the ones that appeared in Loki's Void.
These set photos stoke speculations of a Loki connection even further after rumors that Time Variance Authority (TVA) members will appear in Deadpool 3. The first rumor started with an interestingly vague Twitter interaction between the TVA's Miss Minutes and Reynolds. Shortly after, it was rumored that Owen Wilson would play a significant role in the film. If this theory is correct, the set photos could mean Deadpool and Wolverine are fighting in the Void, where the TVA dumps pruned variants.
Another piece from the set photos is a 20th Century Fox sign, weathered like much of everything else in the Void. The Fox sign has led fans to believe that Deadpool 3 might be the most meta Deadpool yet, potentially featuring Deadpool fighting the rest of the Fox universe. Fans would find this a very on-brand way for Deadpool to transition to the MCU, as it could follow the Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe series.
Although the set photos excite fans, there hasn’t been confirmation about the Deadpool 3 plot yet. Several other theories about the 20th Century Fox sign seem as valid as Deadpool 3's possible connection with Loki. Until the Deadpool 3 trailer is released, fans must keep guessing.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
