What Shawn Levy's Influences Could Mean For Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has revealed inspirations for the Marvel threequel, like Midnight Run, that could hint at the kind of movie to expect.

Easter eggs have become a popular way to pay homage to fans who devoted themselves to a franchise. Many pay close attention to see what special surprise the director slipped in there just for them. Usually, these little treats aren't revealed until the scene is on. However, Levy did give away what specific Easter egg will be in Deadpool 3, and it doesn't have anything to do with the X-Men. During an interview with Esquire, the director, writer, and producer reflected on his passion for cinema and what special surprise he has in store for fans in Deadpool 3. Levy explained what he felt when watching the iconic battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Return of The Jedi and how Deadpool 3 paid homage to the scene.

For one key scene in the movie, I said to my stunt and action team 'Guys, this is the Jedi moment.' I pulled up that scene of Vader and Luke on my phone and restudied how it was photographed and how it was blocked, the framing, the tempo. The Keen Star Wars fan will see the shot in my Deadpool movie that was inspired by a moment that I saw in a theater decades ago. That's a forever memory. And that's a treasure.

Even though revealing an Easter egg isn't the norm, Levy is passionate about his love for cinema. This specific Star Wars: Return of the Jedi scene made him feel something each time he re-watched it in theaters. Even his passion for audiences who enjoy watching his films is admirable.

A blockbuster in any form is devoted to audience delight. You're not making something purely for your own satisfaction. When I started my latest project, the limited Netflix series All the Light We Cannot See , which is my first non-comedy, straight-up-period-piece drama, I was asked, 'What do you want to make people feel?' and I said, 'The answer is in your question: I want to make them feel.

Levy also promises that Deadpool 3 will be even grittier than before. Deadpool 3 is the only R-rated Marvel Studios film, which has given the MCU an edge over its rival comic universe, DC. While DC is known to have darker stories than Marvel, it has struggled to consistently succeed at the box office, as Marvel traditionally has. Knowing the Deadpool franchise, this won't be the only special surprise thrown into the action-packed film. With rumors about special guests making a cameo and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine officially returning, there will be plenty of fun Easter eggs for fans.

Deadpool 3 does not have an official release date.
